Senior Manager, Op Risk - Products & Deposits
Senior Manager, Op Risk - Products & Deposits
About Us
At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our millions of customers.
About the Role
This role provides senior second line operational risk oversight, challenge and advice across products and deposits within Business & Private Banking. The role requires a strong operational risk professional who understands banking products, deposit operations, customer servicing, onboarding, account maintenance, fees, complaints, digital and branch processes, and the control environment that supports them. The person must be able to move between detailed risk review work and broader portfolio insight, with enough SME knowledge to challenge first line effectively.
Role Type: Permanent
Role Location: Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane
Work Hours: Full-Time
What will your day look like?
- Lead second line review and challenge of product and deposit risks, controls, issues, incidents, risk acceptances and remediation plans.
- Perform risk-based reviews of product and deposit processes, including population analysis, sampling, evidence testing and clear documentation of findings.
- Assess whether controls are well designed, consistently operated, appropriately evidenced and aligned to the risk or obligation they are intended to manage.
- Challenge product risk assessments, control assessments, issue ratings, root cause analysis and closure evidence where the risk position is not supported.
- Identify customer, regulatory and operational exposure across account opening, maintenance, servicing, fees, complaints, product changes and closure processes.
- Review risk impacts from product simplification, migrations, system changes, process redesign and manual workarounds.
- Use data, events, complaints, incidents, control metrics, audit findings and sampling outcomes to identify systemic themes and emerging risks.
- Prepare clear risk opinions and governance input that set out the exposure, evidence, challenge and action required.
- Partner across risk, product, operations, technology, compliance and remediation teams to form an end-to-end view of risk.
- Support capability uplift across the team by sharing practical methods for risk reviews, control testing, sampling and risk articulation.
What will you bring?
- Strong operational risk, compliance, audit, assurance or product risk experience in banking or another regulated financial services environment.
- Practical product and deposits experience, ideally across business banking, private banking, account operations, servicing, fees, complaints, onboarding or customer remediation.
- Demonstrated experience performing risk reviews, including scope setting, sampling, walkthroughs, evidence testing and issue validation.
- Strong understanding of control design, control operation, control testing, control self-assessment, issue management and remediation sustainability.
- Ability to distinguish between symptoms, root causes, control failures and actual risk exposure.
- Experience reviewing high-volume operational processes and using data or samples to test whether controls work in practice.
- Ability to challenge constructively and clearly where evidence is weak, ratings are optimistic or actions do not address the root cause.
- Strong systems thinking, with the ability to connect risk across products, channels, processes, customers, technology, data and third parties.
- Clear written judgement, including the ability to produce concise risk opinions, committee input and executive-ready recommendations.
- Flexibility to straddle multiple portfolios and bring both traditional risk discipline and practical SME insight to each matter.
