Mō te tūranga - About the role
As a Senior Automation Engineer in our Technology Operations domain, you’ll play a key role in helping to develop and support ANZ's Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure services through application of DevOps methodologies and principles. This role is responsible for the design, implementation and quality of both on-premises private cloud and public cloud based solutions.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and quality of our Hybrid cloud-based solutions, helping application teams consume our new cloud native application platform, build out infrastructure as code, building CI/CD pipelines and support production releases. You’ll be using automation to deliver infrastructure, applications and fully automate our security and governance controls.
The role involves design, development and support of both on-premises private cloud solutions through Devops Config management tooling such as Puppet in addition to Public cloud infrastructure.
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you are expected to:
- Proactively identify and call out delivery, security and operational risks and help to identify and deliver appropriate cloud features, controls, or mitigations, including risks to other parts of the organisation.
- Work with business stakeholders to identify and understand key business value and risks of cloud hosted and cloud native services to identify and implement improvements to reduce the risk of change and outages to those services
- Be able to adapt to both traditional on-premises technologies such as Virtualisation platforms, Windows Active directory, Group policy, Linux administration as well as Public cloud infrastructure Pipelines and Infra as code assets.

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Ability to apply knowledge and theory, with demonstrated experience producing quality outcomes.
- Sound judgement to solve problems and to articulate the rationale behind the solutions you are proposing.
- Experience operating Cloud technology at scale, using GCP or AWS
- Experience with traditional On-Premises Virtualised infrastructure support and relevant technologies used on-premises.
- Proficiency in technical subject matter expertise and practical experience in the following technologies: Cloud infrastructure as code (IAC) tooling preferably Terraform and/or CloudFormation, Azure RM or Similar technologies.
- Experience with ServiceNow from private Cloud Platforms would be beneficial
- Coding experience in one or more languages (bash, JavaScript, Golang, Python, Powershell, etc), and you use these skills to automate as much as possible
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform/Cloudformation, along with continuous integration/delivery tooling such as Bitbucket/GitHub Actions, Google Cloud Build/CodeFresh/Jenkins, etc.
- Experience with virtualisation platforms used on-premises including Hyper-V or relevant VMware skills
- A understanding of TLS/SSL data encryption and authentication protocols
- Extensive experience working within cross-functional, agile or continuous delivery teams
