Mō te tūranga - About the role

As a Site Reliability Engineer within the NZ Technology team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering stable, customer-ready platforms through Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices. You will support and enable application development teams to accelerate the delivery of solutions into production while maintaining reliability and performance. In this role, you will also provide out-of-hours support as part of a rostered team, responding to incidents, restoring services safely, communicating clearly with stakeholders, and capturing key learnings to drive continuous improvements in reliability and operational excellence.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like?

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will:

Support platform stability by monitoring alerts, dashboards, logs, and metrics, and escalating issues when required.
Help maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines by troubleshooting build, deployment, and environment issues.
Respond to incidents, support service restoration, communicate updates, and contribute to post-incident reviews.
Assist with the planning, implementation, and validation of changes in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Develop DevOps and SRE capabilities by contributing to automation, documentation, and continuous reliability improvements.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

A strong interest in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), automation, observability, platform support, and incident management.
Foundational knowledge of operating systems, networking, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, container platforms, and scripting.
The ability to troubleshoot issues using logs, metrics, traces, and deployment data to support service recovery.
A continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on improving automation, documentation, and operational processes.
Experience supporting platforms through incident, problem, change, vulnerability, and operational management activities.
An understanding of solution design and architecture principles, with a focus on reliability, resilience, and supportability.
Exposure to software development or scripting using tools such as Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform, Helm, Java, or Groovy.
Familiarity with software delivery tools, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, and CodeFresh.
Basic knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, Kubernetes/OpenShift and network troubleshooting concepts such as DNS, certificates, connectivity, firewalls, proxies, and HTTP protocols.
