Mō te tūranga - About the role
As a Senior Quality Engineer (Test Lead) in the goMoney Platforms team, you will combine hands‑on testing expertise with test leadership responsibility to ensure the quality, reliability, and safety of our mobile platform capabilities.
This is a highly hands‑on role. You will personally execute deep manual exploratory testing and contribute to automation, while also guiding quality strategy and approach for complex platform initiatives. You will work on foundational frameworks and tools that enable one of New Zealand’s largest mobile banking experiences, helping teams deliver change with confidence.
Location: Wellington
Role Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: Standard 37.5 hours
Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like
As part of the Customer Platforms area, we focus on transforming a large and complex technology stack into a simple and seamless banking experience.
To achieve this, you will:
- Act as Test Lead for platform initiatives while remaining deeply hands‑on in testing execution
- Perform extensive manual and exploratory testing on mobile applications, particularly for complex, high‑risk platform changes
- Lead and contribute to automation development and maintenance using mobile frameworks (XCUI, Espresso)
- Define and execute test strategies, and coverage across functional and non‑functional testing
- Partner closely with developers, product, and delivery to identify quality risks early and prevent defects
- Champion quality engineering practices such as shift‑left testing and automation‑first design
- Mentor Quality Engineers and developers through hands‑on collaboration, reviews, and pairing
- Communicate quality status, risks, and trade‑offs clearly to stakeholders
- Support production issue investigation through analysis and validation
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
This role suits a senior, hands‑on Test Lead and Quality Engineer who enjoys leading quality outcomes by doing the work, not just defining the approach.
You are comfortable spending a significant portion of your time testing mobile applications directly, particularly through manual and exploratory testing, while also shaping quality practices and mentoring others.
You will ideally bring:
- Extensive software testing experience, with a background in test automation
- Proven experience performing a Test Lead or senior quality role within Agile teams
- Strong, hands‑on experience with manual mobile testing, including exploratory and risk‑based testing
- Strong experience with mobile test automation tools and frameworks (e.g. XCUITest, Espresso)
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. Java, Kotlin, Swift)
- Experience designing, maintaining, and improving test automation frameworks
- Deep understanding of functional and non‑functional testing, especially where manual testing adds the most value
- Experience embedding quality into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate quality risks and recommendations
- A pragmatic, collaborative mindset with a strong sense of ownership
