Mō te tūranga - About the role

As a Fraud Scam Prevention Senior Analyst in ANZ’s Customer Protection team, you’ll play a key role in helping reduce fraud losses by shaping, monitoring, and maintaining effective fraud detection and prevention strategies. To complement our team of skilled technical fraud specialists, we’re looking for someone who not only understands fraud detection tools and products but also brings hands-on experience in fraud analytics. Ideally, you’re someone who feels confident communicating insights—whether they’re data-driven, strategic, or conceptual—to business stakeholders and the wider community.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team where your unique perspective is valued.

Role Location: Te Whanganui-a -Tara (Wellington)

Role Type: Permanent, Fulltime

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like?

As a Senior Fraud Analyst, your day will be dynamic and purpose-driven. Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and championing best-practice fraud detection techniques to strengthen our prevention capabilities.
  • Actively managing fraud detection tools to ensure timely action is taken to protect both the bank and our customers from financial loss.
  • Sharing insights and observations on emerging fraud trends to support the success of the detection team.
  • Contributing to technology projects and change initiatives across Personal Banking, Cards, and Customer Protection, while representing the team as a subject matter expert in fraud.
  • Delivering clear, value-added fraud reporting to senior stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Providing ad-hoc reporting to support technology initiatives and industry benchmarking efforts.
  • Collaborating with other banks and service providers to stay ahead of developments in the fraud landscape.

These are just some of the key responsibilities of the role. You’ll also have the opportunity to bring your own perspective, ideas and strengths to shape how the role evolves and adds value.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Strong fraud knowledge or experience in data and business analysis, particularly within financial services would be helpful.
  • A solid understanding of banking operations and fraud detection systems, with the ability to apply this knowledge in real-world scenarios.
  • Confidence working with data tools like SQL and Microsoft applications, and the ability to identify patterns and anomalies through analysis.
  • Clear and inclusive communication skills, with the ability to present insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leaders and external partners.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to learn, share knowledge, and contribute to a diverse team environment.

You’re not expected to have 100% of these skills. At ANZ a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we’d love to hear from you.
