Responsibilities include leading data discovery, translating business needs into prioritised backlogs, owning data requirements and mappings, creating high‑quality analysis artefacts, and enabling effective delivery through facilitation and proactive stakeholder management. You’ll also contribute to the growth of the BA chapter through mentoring and continuous improvement.

Banking is changing and we’re changing with it, giving our people great opportunities to try new things, learn and grow. Whatever your role at ANZ, you’ll be building your future, while helping to build ours.

This role is accountable for:

  • Providing senior technical business analysis leadership for complex data initiatives across one or more delivery squads, maintaining clear oversight of scope, impacts, dependencies, risks, assumptions, and key business and technology decisions.
  • Translating business outcomes into delivery‑ready data requirements and specifications, including source‑to‑target mappings, transformation logic, business rules, lineage assumptions, and reconciliation and validation criteria.
  • Owning backlog and requirements management within Jira (epics, features, and stories), ensuring traceability to outcomes, effective prioritisation, and well‑controlled change management.
  • Applying strong Scrum and agile practices by leading backlog refinement, defining and applying Definition of Ready (and supporting Definition of Done), and actively enabling delivery ceremonies such as planning, reviews, retrospectives, and stand‑ups as required.
  • Facilitating effective stakeholder engagement and producing fit‑for‑purpose analysis artefacts and communications—such as story and delivery maps, data flows, models, and glossaries—to build shared understanding and support timely, informed decision‑making.
  • Embedding quality, governance, and responsible innovation by supporting testing and validation to ensure delivered data meets agreed outcomes and acceptance criteria; ensuring compliance with ANZ Group, Data Governance standards, and external regulatory obligations; and promoting the responsible use of GenAI, including contributing to improvement and automation opportunities through safe use‑case exploration.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

  • Strong data delivery capability: proficient SQL; practical understanding of data warehousing concepts; ability to interrogate data to validate requirements and outcomes.
  • Ability to define delivery-ready data requirements: translate business outcomes into epics/stories and detailed specifications including source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, business rules, and validation/reconciliation criteria.
  • Strong Jira requirements/backlog management: structure epics/features/stories, maintain traceability and prioritisation, manage dependencies and change, and ensure work meets Definition of Ready for sprint planning (supporting Definition of Done where applicable).
  • Advanced facilitation and stakeholder management: lead workshops and story mapping, align diverse viewpoints, drive decisions, and communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences using fit-for-purpose artefacts (e.g., maps, data flows, models, glossaries).
  • Working knowledge of data governance, risk, and privacy controls, and demonstrated awareness of responsible GenAI use (information handling, bias/confidentiality considerations) with the ability to apply authorised GenAI tools appropriately to improve BA outcomes.

‘Good to have’ knowledge, skills and experiences:

  • Experience delivering data outcomes in banking/financial services or other highly regulated environments, with awareness of compliance, audit, and operational risk expectations.

  • Familiarity with Python (or similar) for light-weight data validation, automation of checks, or rapid prototyping.
  • Deeper knowledge of data modelling and integration patterns (conceptual/logical/physical; batch/streaming/API) to support solution design discussions.
