Mō te tūranga - About the role

As the Manager, Payment Processing in our Institutional Payment Operations team, you will lead the team responsible for ANZ New Zealand's Payment Processing function, overseeing the team and services that support SWIFT and high-value payments. You'll ensure payments are processed accurately, efficiently, and in line with service, regulatory, risk, and financial crime requirements. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll drive operational excellence, strengthen controls and resilience, support strategic change initiatives, and deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

As the Manager, Payment Processing, you are accountable for:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing team responsible for domestic high-value and international payment processing.
  • Overseeing payment processing functions, ensuring transactions are processed accurately, efficiently, and in line with regulatory and risk requirements.
  • Managing payment exceptions, investigations, and customer enquiries, ensuring timely resolution and escalation where required.
  • Driving automation, AI adoption, and process improvements to enhance service delivery, efficiency, and straight-through processing.
  • Providing operational oversight across onshore and offshore teams, ensuring strong performance, resilience, and effective workload management.
  • Monitoring and reporting of service performance, operational risks, customer impacts, and control outcomes.
  • Partnering with stakeholders across Technology, Risk, Financial Crime, and Operations to deliver service excellence and strategic change.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on payment processing and settlement activities, support incident management, and strengthen operational resilience through continuous improvement and contingency planning.

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Proven experience in payment operations, transaction processing, and clearing and settlement environments.
  • Strong knowledge of domestic and international payments, SWIFT, investigations, and exception management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading high-performing teams and driving operational excellence.Sound understanding of operational risk, financial crime, governance, controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Experience leading change, process improvement, automation, and technology initiatives.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to leverage data, automation, and AI to enhance customer and business outcomes.
