Mō te tūranga - About the role
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you manage all aspects of Card Switching across multiple touchpoints, delivering stable, customer ready platforms across environments and supporting the full lifecycle of technology platforms. You will assess and coordinate requests from technology teams, external partners, and the business, applying strong analytical and communication skills to gather, validate, and document requirements from high level business needs through to detailed technical specifications.
You support solution delivery across the full SDLC and Agile ways of working, leading design and support for medium complexity initiatives and contributing to large, high complexity deliveries within cross functional squads for card transaction processing, including VisaNet, Mastercard, and New Zealand domestic protocols. Operating within a real time, 24/7 card payments switching ecosystem, you ensure availability, integrity, and compliant delivery aligned with card scheme mandates, PCI requirements, and operational risk standards. technology frameworks.
You will assess and triage all incidents and queries, and ensure that the correct process is followed, through the lifecycle , from problems, Jiras , requests for work from other teams including coding, and own the solution to it’s resolution.

This role is accountable for:
- Coordinating and scheduling all work assigned to the Chapter and squad.
- Ensuring that all current and upcoming requirements are managed across the SDLC from inception to production.
- Ensuring that all infrastructure and compliance information is fully documented.
- Collaborate with developers, testers, project managers, and business stakeholders to ensure success.
- Support incident and problem investigations, ensuring accurate documentation, root‑cause clarity, and timely remediation of defects and non‑functional issues.
- Facilitate effective workshops and discussions, bringing structure to complex topics and decisions.
- Identify and escalate risks, issues, dependencies, and potential impacts early and transparently.
- Promote compliance with ANZ policies, SDLC frameworks, release processes, and audit/regulatory expectations.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, and infrastructure best practice within the Switch environment.
- Ensure that we are always compliant with policy and documentation.
- Ensure that we are always current with PKI requirements, certs , TLs etc

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong collaboration and prioritisation skills
- Strong ability to understand business problems and break them down into technical solutions
- Systematic and disciplined approach to development, testing and delivery
- Proven capability to lead and own work end‑to‑end, from concept through production and support
- Acts as a subject matter expert and trusted reference for requirements and design discussions
- Experience working effectively across business, technical teams and external partners
- Extensive experience operating in agile teams and environments
- Strong scripting and automation skills for application deployment and infrastructure configuration
- Hands‑on management of Windows and Linux server environments
- Experience with virtualisation platforms and infrastructure services
- Strong understanding of load balancers and high‑availability architectures
- Solid knowledge of networking protocols and low‑latency, real‑time systems
- 5+ years’ experience working on Linux/Unix systems in complex environments
- Strong SQL database experience, preferably with Oracle
- Demonstrated ability to self‑manage workload, navigate ambiguity and drive outcomes
