Mō te tūranga - About the role
The Head of External Reporting within ANZ’s Financial Control function leads the preparation of ANZ NZ’s external financial reports, ensuring full compliance with IFRS, ANZ policies, and all statutory and regulatory obligations. In this role, you will provide strategic financial insights to senior stakeholders on business and regulatory initiatives, manage key relationships with external auditors, and represent ANZ in influential forums such as RBNZ and NZBA. You will also oversee subsidiary statutory reporting and internal Board reporting, ensuring strong governance, accuracy, and timely delivery across all processes.

The Head of External Reporting position heads ANZ’s accomplished External Reporting team and is a dynamic and impactful role with a broad range of responsibilities. Some of your day-to-day activities may include:
- Lead the planning, communication, and delivery of ANZ NZ’s statutory and regulatory reporting, ensuring accuracy, insightful supporting documentation, and preparation of Board papers that meet external reporting requirements.
- Oversee subsidiary reporting processes end-to-end, maintaining rigorous quality assurance and compliance standards to deliver timely and reliable outcomes.
- Drive statutory and regulatory projects, interpreting new requirements and implementing solutions that support external reporting objectives and deliver optimal results for the Bank.
- Champion financial integrity by embedding robust controls and governance, ensuring all statutory and regulatory information is accurate, complete, and delivered on time.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing expert advice and guidance to support business decisions while ensuring adherence to financial policies and regulatory obligations.
- Lead process improvement initiatives by simplifying, standardising, and automating activities where possible, while recruiting, developing, and motivating a high-performing team to achieve excellence.

You are someone who enjoys a challenge, is always proactive and looks for ways to improve and simplify how things are done. To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Deep experience in financial institutions and/or auditing, with a strong background in financial controls and complex reporting environments.
- Proven expertise in interpreting and applying New Zealand and international accounting standards to deliver accurate and compliant outcomes.
- A track record of successfully leading and inspiring finance professionals to achieve high performance and continuous improvement.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively across a diverse range of colleagues and stakeholders.
- Strong influencing capability at all levels, coupled with the confidence to drive change and embed best practices.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, both detailed and conceptual, with an end-to-end process mindset and a clear focus on delivering for customers.
