Mō te tūranga - About the role
The General Manager Data & AI is a senior leadership role within New Zealand Technology, responsible for leading the implementation of ANZ's enterprise Data & AI strategy across New Zealand. Reporting to the CIO New Zealand & Pacific, the role provides strategic leadership across data governance, risk, regulatory compliance, operating models and AI adoption, ensuring data and AI capabilities are leveraged responsibly to deliver business value while meeting regulatory obligations.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape ANZ's approach to Data & AI in New Zealand, balancing innovation, trust, customer outcomes and regulatory confidence. Leading the New Zealand implementation of the Data & AI agenda, you will translate enterprise strategy into local execution. The position is accountable for establishing robust data governance and ownership frameworks, strengthening data risk management and compliance, driving the responsible adoption of AI and advanced analytics, and maturing ANZ's Data & AI capability. The role also provides leadership across data platforms, operating models and enterprise-wide initiatives that support ANZ's strategic priorities.
The role partners closely with the Group Chief Data & Analytics Officer, CIO New Zealand & Pacific, and business leaders to embed data-driven decision making, influence enterprise priorities, and shape the future of Data & AI across New Zealand

You will be responsible for:
- Leading the implementation of ANZ's enterprise Data & AI strategy across New Zealand, translating strategic direction into practical outcomes that create value for customers, colleagues and the business.
- Establishing and embedding robust data governance, ownership and operating models that strengthen data quality, accountability and consistency across the organisation.
- Shaping ANZ's approach to AI in New Zealand, driving the responsible adoption of AI and advanced analytics while balancing innovation with risk, governance and regulatory obligations.
- Providing leadership across data risk and compliance, ensuring strong controls, regulatory alignment and effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
- Partnering with senior leaders across Technology, Risk and the business to embed the Data & AI agenda, influence enterprise priorities and support strategic decision-making.
- Driving greater adoption of data products, insights and enterprise tools, fostering a culture where data is trusted, accessible and used to inform better outcomes.
- Providing strategic oversight of core data platforms and vendor partnerships, ensuring services remain secure, resilient, cost-effective and fit for future needs.
- Supporting the delivery of enterprise-wide transformation initiatives, ensuring Data & AI capabilities enable ANZ's strategic priorities and long-term ambitions.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
To thrive and excel in this role, you should ideally possess the following:
- Executive leadership experience shaping and delivering Data, AI or Analytics strategies within a large, regulated organisation
- Deep expertise in data governance, operating models, risk management and regulatory compliance, with the ability to create trusted and sustainable enterprise outcomes
- Experience shaping the responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies, with the strategic acumen to unlock value while maintaining appropriate governance, controls and trust.
- Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders, regulators and senior leaders, building alignment and driving enterprise-wide change across diverse and complex environments.
- Demonstrated success leading high-performing teams and building organisational capability across data, analytics, AI and technology disciplines.
- The judgement, resilience and leadership presence to balance innovation, customer outcomes, risk and regulatory obligations in a highly regulated environment.
