About the Role
As the Director & Sector Lead Resources, Energy & Infrastructure (REI), Japan, you will drive the growth and success of our REI sector. Your responsibilities include the coordination of product strategies and solutions for the specific designated client portfolio, developing financial solutions to meet client needs, and driving overall bank revenue/returns and responsibility for credit risk in line with International Strategy and risk appetite.
In this role, you will work closely with the Country Heads of Japan and the global REI network, particularly with Head of REI International and REI Australia. This role involves sector leadership, people development, strategic development (aligned with Institutional and International strategy), management & coordination with credit analysts (R&A), product partners and international stakeholders across the ANZ network to deliver accretive revenue and return growth to the portfolio.
The role requires a disciplined approach to account planning and other client and portfolio management tasks, both within the REI team and across the broader Corporate Coverage team to cultivate further opportunities from Japanese customers. Furthermore, a razor-sharp understanding of our risk appetite and return objectives and successfully building these into long term customer planning.

What will your day look like?
As the Director & Sector Lead Resources, Energy & Infrastructure (REI), Japan, you will:
- Develop and execute strategies for acquiring new customers, identifying new business opportunities with existing customers, and increasing share of wallet through new products and services.
- Originate and execute business with assigned relationships and clients in line with ANZ's Institutional and International strategy.
- Retain profitable existing customers by consistently exceeding customer expectations through superior service.
- Enhance client relationships and deliver comprehensive banking solutions.
- Develop and maintain industry expertise and awareness of key economic trends.
- Review credit memoranda and diary notes to ensure all risks in credit exposures are identified and assessed.
- Mentor and develop other bankers and related roles where appropriate.
- Maintain a well-managed portfolio, ensuring compliance with group standards and regulatory requirements, including the ANZ Code of Conduct & Ethics and the Japan Risk Appetite Statement.
What will you bring?
To excel in this role, you will bring:
- Deep expertise across REI portfolio, including deep sector knowledge, extensive understanding of key economic, political and regulatory trends impacting the industry.
- Excellent financial analysis skills, ability to understand complex global businesses, identify the right customers for ANZ and the creditworthiness of complex businesses, demonstrating a balance risk management approach, with the ability to adhere to internal standards and complex compliance obligations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex discussions with key senior stakeholders, multi-touch client engagement and demonstrated negotiation skills.
- Proven sales experience, with strong relationships, connectivity and origination success within the sector (both domestically and internationally).
- Ability to be self-directed and driven to conduct detailed account planning in a collaborative and effective manner including identification of cross-sell opportunities across whole of bank and development of customer strategies/solutions.
- Exceptional communication skills in both English and Japanese language (both written and verbal), including ability to influence and drive change.
