About the Role
As a Director in the Financial Institutions Group (FIG), you will play a key role in driving ANZ’s Institutional strategy in Japan by expanding market share within the financial institutions sector, growing revenue across products and geographies, and strengthening senior-level client relationships while ensuring disciplined risk and compliance management.
Key responsibilities including growing the FIG business through direct deal engagement, client relationship management and Research & Analysis support of the local FIG team. The incumbent will have a demonstrated competence in key transaction banking, financial markets and lending products of relevance to the financial institutions sector, which they will use in the execution of their responsibilities. The incumbent will develop and maintain internal relationships with key stakeholders including regional and country management, product partners located in country and regionally, their FI team counterparts around the world as the segment seeks to deliver an efficient global account coverage program, as well as their Credit partners. The incumbent will also need to take responsibility for all aspects and processes of a running a well-managed business including ensuring no overdue credit files, passing all internal audit requirements and ensuring timely and effective KYC is completed. This position reports to the Head of FIG, Japan.

What will your day look like?
- Develop and execute strategies to acquire new clients and identify business opportunities in partnership with product specialists.
- Manage and grow a portfolio of existing clients by delivering exceptional service and exceeding expectations.
- Strengthen client relationships and optimize revenue mix through strategic account management.
- Build trusted partnerships with senior stakeholders across financial institutions
- Originate, structure, and execute deals, working closely with internal product and enablement teams.
- Drive cross-selling opportunities to deepen client engagement.
- Conduct financial analysis, including credit assessments and due diligence, to evaluate risks and opportunities.
- Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
What will you bring?
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following –
- Strong experience in the financial industry, ideally within banking or securities firms, with a focus on markets, relationship management, and corporate finance.
- Strong understanding of financial markets, banking products (loans, clearing), and corporate finance.
- An extensive network of seniors across Japanese financial institutions, particularly life insurers and non-life insurers, together with a proven ability to leverage those relationships to drive client engagement and business growth, would be a distinct advantage.
- Proven experience evaluating financial statements and assessing credit risk.
- Very strong knowledge of credit, capital management, and compliance.
- Experience working in global banks or financial institutions with cross-border collaboration.
- Demonstrated competence in global account management and well-managed internal processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to engage senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with a solution-oriented approach to complex client needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage projects, and contribute to team success.
- Commercial/corporate banking experience with strong exposure to Financial Institutions and delivering tailored solutions.
- Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English (spoken and written).
