About the Role

The Associate Director, Financial Institutions Group (FIG) position is a key role to the ANZ Institutional strategy with coverage of a priority sector within the Japan Market with an emphasis on developing and expanding the market position held by FIG in Japan to maximise both local & international revenue opportunities.  The role requires strong people and a good understanding of the ANZ product range, sound credit knowledge and judgement, as well as the attention to detail to run all aspects of the business required within the coverage team.

 

Key responsibilities including growing the FIG business through direct deal engagement, client relationship management and Research & Analysis support of the local FIG team.  The incumbent will have a demonstrated competence in key transaction banking, financial markets and lending products of relevance to the financial institutions sector, which they will use in the execution of their responsibilities.  The incumbent will develop and maintain internal relationships with key stakeholders including regional and country management, product partners located in country and regionally, their FI team counterparts around the world as the segment seeks to deliver an efficient global account coverage program, as well as their Credit partners.  The incumbent will also need to take responsibility for all aspects and processes of a running a well-managed business including ensuring no overdue credit files, passing all internal audit requirements and ensuring timely and effective KYC is completed.

What will your day look like?

  • Development and execution of strategies necessary for the acquisition of new customers and to identify new business opportunities in conjunction with product specialists.
  • Retaining profitable existing customers by consistently meeting or exceeding customer expectations through superior customer service.
  • Up-tiering client relationship and making sure we have the right revenue mix.
  • Build and maintain strong relationship with key financial institutions, acting as a trusted advisor to senior executives and decision-makers.
  • Originate, structure, evaluate and execute on prospective deals.
  • Collaborate with product partners and enablement colleagues to develop/up-tier relationships and win mandates.
  • Deepen existing customer relationships through driving cross sell opportunities.
  • Conduct through financial analysis, including credit assessments and financial due diligence to identify risk factors evaluate financial health.
  • Always ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and ANZ’s policies / guidelines.

What will you bring?

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following –

 

  • Strong experience in the financial industry, ideally within banking or securities firms, with a focus on markets, relationship management and corporate finance.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, banking products (loans, clearing), and corporate finance businesses. Solid experience in evaluating financial statements and credit risk.
  • Stay informed about global financial markets, banking industry trends, regulatory changes, and market risks, leveraging this knowledge to proactively address client needs and to protect the firm.
  • Demonstrated competence in global account management and internal well managed processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a global, multicultural environment as well as ability to interface with clients at a senior level.
  • Experience working in global banks or financial institutions, with the ability to manage relationships and collaborate across borders.
  • Strong analytical skills with a solution-oriented approach to addressing complex client needs and challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage projects, and contribute to the overall success of the team and organization.
  • Very strong credit, capital management, compliance knowledge.
  • Being risk aware and forming views on relevant business themes.
  • Commercial/corporate banking experience with extensive experience covering Financial Institutions delivering unique solutions required for these companies.
  • Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English (speaking and writing) is essential for effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
