About the Role
Markets business delivers innovative product solutions across foreign exchange, capital markets, fixed income, commodities, as well as specialist research and risk management expertise. With revenue in excess of A$2bn, ~$60bn RWA, 1,400 professionals working in dealing rooms located in the major financial hubs of London, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Wellington, Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as Beijing, Taipei, Jakarta, Manila, Hanoi and Seoul, with access to a global network of close to 30 countries.
This role is part of the Global Business Unit (GBU) Control team within Market and Treasury Financial Control (MTFC) and is accountable for financial control process execution and framework adherence through our end-to-end controllership model. It supports the Lead Fixed Income, Balance Sheet Trading and Sydney role to ensure the businesses are financially well-managed through integrity of financial reporting, application of effective control processes, and compliance with finance policies and procedures (i.e. relevant requirements from MTFC Framework Procedures and Policies as well as the Group’s Financial Accounting Operating Policies). These include, but is not limited to, P&L validation and recognition, supporting regulatory returns and attestations, P&L attribution, explanation of business performance to senior management, ensuring Balance Sheet (BS) integrity through BS substantiation and BS commentary, all while maintaining a strong independent business relationship.
This role in MTFC supports the independent and regulatory mandated role performed by Markets and Treasury Financial Control, and you will liaise with Head-of-Desk level business stakeholders across Markets daily in delivering these outcomes. This role will be the primary role that interacts with the relevant heads of the Rates and Credit desks.
You will lead and manage a team of ~2 senior controllers in Singapore and Sydney, support in-country Markets Finance staff in E&A and New Zealand, supervise daily and periodic Rates and Credit tasks performed by MTFC Manila colleagues including daily P&L production/review and BS validation, and work collaboratively with both the Head of Traded MTFC and Head of Non-Traded MTFC in Manila.

What will your day look like?
This role is primarily accountable for financial control process execution and framework adherence through our end-to-end controllership model for the Rates and Credit businesses globally, achieved by delivering product, valuation and financial control outcomes of the highest quality globally on daily basis. There is also a secondary (in an on-the-ground support and coverage capacity) responsibility for financial control process execution and framework adherence through our end-to-end controllership model for the BST businesses based in Singapore as and when required. This will be achieved via:
Customer first: Developing and maintaining strong relationships with GBU/Heads of Desk, Market Risk and First-Line Governance Counterparts, and Enterprise Finance Customers (FPM, BPs etc). As well as delivering the highest integrity in numbers, you will provide high quality financial insights to support commercially astute decision making. You will own and/or contribute towards broader team initiatives and ably deputise where required at senior business forums.
Simplicity: you will drive continuous optimisation of our processes and controls to ensure your team delivers the highest quality outputs in an efficient manner. Challenging status quo with a continuous improvement and simplification mindset, you will support the wider team in a broader journey to move the team onto evolving our data and systems landscape for the team as part of the Enterprise Finance modernisation agenda.
Resilience: Ensure compliance with relevant standards, policies, legislation and regulations (Statutory and Regulatory), group accounting policies, and create an environment that ensures NFR framework is front-and-centre to our code and minimal material NFR or audit issues are raised.
Delivering Value: In delivering both numbers and control outcomes with the highest integrity, you will add value to the business in determining ‘what we can do better’. You will contribute towards the creation of a collaborative environment, in both BAU and Strategic Project Deliverables (TLC Global, Process Standardisation etc).

Qualifications-

Financial Markets Qualifications or CA/CPA

More than 15 years banking industry experience preferably in Global Markets and in controls related functions i.e. product/valuation/financial controls, including people leadership in a multi-geographic environment.

You will have had the following experience:

System Changes and Booking Model Design - Implementing major system changes or heavily contributing to design.

Technical Accounting - Working with accounting policy / technical accounting teams to implement key requirements.
