Within Retail Australia, the Data and Analytics team plays a critical role in helping make smarter, data-driven decisions. It brings together three key sub-functions: Data Management, Analytics and Insights, and AI and Machine Learning, each focused on turning data into value.

This team is responsible for building and maintaining the data foundations that support everything from regulatory reporting to customer insights and advanced AI applications. Whether it’s ensuring data quality, uncovering trends, or powering intelligent tools, the team helps ANZ deliver better outcomes for customers and the business.

The Head of Data Management provides leadership with a combined strategic and operational mandate for how the division manages its data and reduces data risk.   This role leads and develops teams accountable for end-to-end management of Retail data that protects, improves and provides governed data for driving customer and business value, while adhering to legal, ethical and risk management needs.

This role is pivotal in transforming current Data Management, partnering with Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Data Management to simplify and improve data governance and data risk management practices, and to embed accountabilities and implement processes.

The role provides data leadership for the Retail functions to produce high quality data that is fit for purpose, and to govern the use of that data by the data and analytics team, and other consumers, to realise value for ANZ and its customers.

Your key accountabilities in this role will include:

  • Support the MD Data and Analytics to define the Australia Retail Data Strategy in alignment with the Enterprise Data Strategy.
  • Lead the development of the Data Program of Action and mobilise a team of experts to deliver to the plan.
  • Sponsor key initiatives in the plan and represent Australia Retail in enterprise data initiatives.
  • Embed data management and data governance processes and practices across all end-to end critical process in Australia Retail.
  • Increase the maturity of the data accountability model across Retail, to embed clear and transparent lines of ownership. 
  • Lead the business to adopt best practices in the production and consumption of data across its lifecycle.
  • Develop and enforce data controls and standards, in partnership with business and technology teams, allowing active monitoring and resolution of data quality issues.
  • In partnership with the Enterprise Data Management Office, lead the division’s progression in capabilities such as master data, reference data and metadata management.
  • Partner with other divisions in the organisation to ensure Retail data is fit for purpose.
  • Champion the evolution of data management and data governance, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and industry standards as they change.
  • Role modelling and promoting ANZ values, shaping a high-performance culture, Create-Deliver-Together behaviours and leading the team to do the same.

About You

To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:

  • Proven experience developing and implementing data management strategies or governance initiatives that generated measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent commercial acumen, including the ability to shape and contribute to business cases for data investment.
  • Proven experience in key data management disciplines such as data risk and controls, metadata management, compliance, privacy, in heavily regulated environments.
  • Experience running data management operations, including data quality, metadata, master data, and records management.
  • Experience establishing and leading data stewardship networks and supporting data owners, producers, and consumers.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively across executive, technical, and organisational boundaries, simplifying complex information for non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of information management, records management, relevant regulations and industry standards, as well as knowledge of data protection and privacy landscape such as CPG 235, BCBS 239, CPS 230.
  • The ability to lead and motivate diverse teams, anchoring your approach in ANZ’s values and leadership behaviours to bring about transformational change and material risk reduction. This includes a reputation for coaching, encouraging curiosity and investing in people development.
