About the Role

 

Reporting to the Head of Compliance, Institutional you will be responsible for managing and leading the ANZ Control Room to manage and oversee Conflicts of Interest management across ANZ Group. You will need to have strong people leadership skills to lead and build a strong Control Room team across locations and provide coaching and mentoring to develop your team to be the best versions of themselves. You will also need to be a strong compliance professional able to provide clear advice on complex conflicts scenarios to all Divisions and teams at ANZ. You will need to collaborate with teams and stakeholders across ANZ, including Divisional Compliance teams, Enterprise Compliance, Business and Technology, within complex ecosystems. In addition to managing BAU conflicts of interest policies, processes and systems, such as transaction conflicts, personal conflicts, personal trading restrictions, you will also be responsible for driving and leading the uplift in policies and procedures owned by the Control Room to continue to strengthen conflicts management across ANZ.

What will your day look like?

 

  • Lead the Control Room function, including its policies, procedures, controls, and technology platforms (e.g. StarCompliance), ensuring they meet audit, regulatory and internal governance expectations. 
  • Provide independent challenge as the 2nd Line of Defence to ensure business units identify, escalate and manage actual, potential, or perceived conflicts appropriately. 
  • Report regularly to governance committees on conflict of interest risks, incidents, audit findings, breaches, and emerging themes.
  • Manage the ANZ Trading policies, including ANZ Trading Blackout period and related restrictions. 
  • Own controls relating to the handling, recording, and monitoring of MNPI, ensuring appropriate segregation, access controls and audit trails.
  • Lead uplift programs and conduct training across Enterprise as required for conflicts of interest 
  • Manage the transaction conflicts clearance process across the Enterprise, primarily arising from Institutional business activities, including wall‑crossing procedures, where required
  • Oversee the Personal Conflicts Disclosure process, including assessment, escalation, and closure of disclosures relating to personal conflicts of interest, outside business interest and personal account dealing. 
  • Provide authoritative advice to business units on conflict scenarios and conflict‑mitigation strategies (e.g., disclosures, restrictions, recusals), where required.
  • Drive enterprise‑wide conflict‑of‑interest education programs to uplift awareness across private‑side and public‑side teams.

What will you bring?

 

  • Prior experience leading a Control Room at a domestic or international financial institution 
  • Strong people leadership skills, with a proven track record in building teams and coaching and mentoring existing team members. 
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including presentation skills to senior leaders and executives 
  • Proven track record in managing change while delivering and supporting BAU activities
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across teams, including Compliance, Risk and Business 
  • Ability to develop and deliver clear reporting and governance metrics across Divisions and Enterprise
