Head of Financial Crime, Risk, this role reports to the Group General Manager Financial Crime & Group MLRO and is responsible for leading the Financial Crime Risk teams in combating financial crime against ANZ and our customers. The team are subject matter experts in financial crime risk management and will be responsible for advice, review and challenge and support on the Financial Crime environment. Financial Crime in this context includes AML/CFT, Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption, and Fraud. 

Your key accountabilities in this role will include:

  • Providing assurance, where required, to Head of Financial Crime Portfolio & Group MLRO that financial crime risk is effectively identified & managed within relevant business units.
  • Lead the Financial Crime Risk teams in ensuring effective advice, review and challenge on the financial crime environment is provided with a focus on the end customer and ANZ’s risk appetite;
  • Lead the Financial Crime Risk teams in ensuring that relevant business unit and stakeholders are fully engaged with the financial crime obligations & control objectives, and responds with relevant controls and testing capability;
  • Lead the Financial Crime Risk teams in ensuring financial crime related support is provided to the relevant business unit in managing issues and events and potential regulatory interactions;
  • Demonstrate strong industry relationships and participate in relevant internal and industry financial crime forums.
  • Lead the Financial Crime Risk teams in ensuring material events and matters are escalated to the Head of Financial Crime Portfolio & Group MLRO to enable escalation the forums such as Divisional Risk Committees, Financial Crime OREC Sub Committee, Board Risk Committee;
  • Build and line-manage the Financial Crime Risk teams, including establishing and maintaining succession plans for key roles
  • Achieve high levels of employee engagement with the relevant business unit;
  • Establish productive relationships with senior staff across the relevant Division to create an awareness of financial crime prevention and mitigation as a necessary and integral part of everyday banking life;
  • Ensure ANZ's core values are always maintained in dealing with staff, colleagues and customers.

About You

To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:

  • Extensive experience in core financial crime areas (sanctions, anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing);
  • Solid understanding of business unit products, services and risk profile.
  • Proven ability to lead and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Strong executive-level stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Sound judgement with strong problem-solving and decision-making capability.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience within financial services, ideally in financial crime, risk or control assurance.
  • Relevant financial crime qualifications (e.g. ACAMS or equivalent) preferred.
  • Proven leadership capability with deep interpersonal skills, including building, leading and developing high-performing teams and fostering a strong compliance and risk culture.
