About the Role
As a Senior Lawyer in the ANZ Institutional Legal Group, you will provide legal advice and support to a specific part of the ANZ business within a designated geographic area. You will be expected to proactively and independently offer the necessary legal support, including handling complex matters and transactions for senior stakeholders. Additionally, you will collaborate with senior risk, compliance, and enablement partners to ensure comprehensive support for the business.
In this role, you will be responsible for offering general legal advice on day-to-day operations with a proactive approach, resolving complex legal, regulatory, or customer issues, and assisting in the assessment and implementation of regulatory changes, strategic initiatives, and growth opportunities.

What will your day look like?

Provide technically excellent, strategic and solutions orientated legal and regulatory advice to legal, risk and business stakeholders, helping to ensure the right outcomes are achieved.

Communicate clearly and effectively.

Develop and demonstrate a strong understanding of the supported business, including its strategic agenda and initiatives.

Proven ability to build strong relationships with the business.

Contribute positively to the timely and efficient delivery of products and services to customers by the business, helping achieve business, regulator and customer objectives.

Contribute to maintaining a well-managed business by identifying, raising and managing legal and regulatory risks and issues.

Support the business and its operations and risk partners to understand the legal and regulatory landscape, global trends and risks in the execution of their strategic plans, helping to implement changes as appropriate.

Collaborate across ILG, contributing towards the provision of seamless service to the supported business.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

More than 10 years post-qualification experience as a lawyer (either as an in-house counsel and/or in private practice) with strong technical legal expertise in banking and finance law and proven ability to exercise excellent judgement in the identification and management of legal risk

Strong understanding of the supported business, including the products distributed by the business and its customers

Ability to deliver timely legal advice in a way that helps the business achieve its commercial objectives whilst understanding legal risk

A well-developed risk radar and confidence to speak-up and escalate risks appropriately
