About the Role
Reporting to the Global COO, Institutional, as the Chief Operating Officer – SEAIME you are responsible for providing leadership, oversight and stewardship of Institutional Operations across the South Asia region. You will ensure customer, regulatory, risk and strategic priorities are governed and supported across India, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines.
As the senior link between Country leadership, Institutional Operations and Group Operations, the role ensures local requirements, customer expectations and banking licence obligations shape operational priorities, transformation and strategic decisions.
You will also:
- Lead Country COOs and coordinate regional governance, balancing customer, regulatory and country needs with enterprise simplification, standardisation and operational excellence.
- Advise the Global COO by consolidating regional insights, identifying risks and opportunities, shaping priorities and balancing global alignment with local needs.
- Own the portfolio’s financial and commercial performance within approved plans and delegations, including expenditure, workforce costs, productivity and transformation benefits.

What will your day look like?
You are accountable for:
Regional Leadership and Country Stewardship
• Lead and develop Country COO teams across the South Asia region, ensuring effective execution of customer, risk, regulatory, people and governance outcomes.
• Provide regional oversight of Institutional Operations activities, maintaining visibility of emerging risks, issues and opportunities across all markets.
Financial and Commercial Performance
• Own the financial plan and performance within approved delegations, including operating expenditure, workforce costs, productivity targets and transformation benefit commitments across the global portfolio.
Regulatory and Banking Licence Oversight
• Maintain awareness of regulatory developments, supervisory expectations and banking licence obligations across all countries within the region.
• Support Country COOs Management Teams in regulatory engagement activities impacting Institutional Operations.
Customer and Country Advocacy
• Represent the voice of customers, bankers and countries within Institutional Operations to ensure regional requirements are appropriately reflected in operational and strategic decisions.
• Champion customer outcomes by identifying themes, pain points and opportunities that may impact customer experience across the region.
• Advocate for solutions that appropriately balance customer needs, regulatory obligations, operational effectiveness and enterprise simplification objectives.
Strategic Execution and Change Enablement
• Influence the prioritisation of operational change, simplification and transformation initiatives to ensure regional impacts and requirements are considered.
• Support successful implementation of EO/IO and GO strategic initiatives across the region.
Enterprise Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Country CEOs, Country Management Teams, Institutional Business leaders, Product, Risk, Compliance, Group Operations and Enterprise Functions.
• Facilitate effective collaboration between countries/global delivery teams to improve service outcomes and operational effectiveness.
Regional Intelligence and Insight
• Consolidate customer, banker, employee, risk and performance insights from across the region.
• Identify systemic issues, emerging trends and strategic opportunities requiring executive attention.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:
- Deep Institutional Banking expertise, including products, customer servicing, operational delivery, banking licence obligations and multi-jurisdiction regulatory requirements across South Asia.
- Proven leadership across South Asia countries, cultures and complex matrix organisations, with strong judgement and influence through indirect authority.
- Strong customer and market acumen, translating customer, banker and regional insights into practical actions and resolving complex operational challenges.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with experience engaging Country CEOs, regulators, senior executives and external stakeholders.
- Strong operational risk, AML, Financial Crime, compliance and governance expertise, including regulatory engagement, issue management and remediation.
- Proven ability to lead and develop geographically dispersed teams, build succession pipelines and foster accountability, inclusion, collaboration and continuous improvement.
