About the Role

As Associate Director, Operational Risk, you will play a key role within the Institutional Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Operational Risk and Resilience Centre of Excellence (COE).  The Operational Risk and Resilience COE act as the Divisional SMEs for a range of risk themes covering Third Party; Transaction Processing; Model Risk; Physical Security; People; Legal; Statutory Reporting and Tax and Change Execution. 

 

You will be responsible for driving uplift in the approach across the Division, ensuring risks are understood and effectively managed.  You will also ensure Divisional adherence to applicable frameworks and supports the business in operating within defined risk appetite while strengthening resilience, governance and sustainable risk management outcomes.

What will your day look like?

As an Associate Director, Operational Risk, you will; 

 

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Institutional business. 
  • Partner with Enterprise stakeholders to ensure risk frameworks, policies and processes are effectively implemented across the Division.  
  • Drive continuous improvement in risk management practices, controls and governance outcomes.  
  • Provide insight, oversight and constructive challenge on risk profiles, control effectiveness and risk in change.  
  • Build strong relationships with business leaders, risk partners and control functions to support effective risk management outcomes.  
  • Ensure risk appetite is clearly understood, monitored and managed through meaningful metrics and indicators.  
  • Strengthen the control environment through enhancements to controls, tools, data and processes.  
  • Support the delivery and embedding of the PACT program, driving uplift in risk capability, processes and controls.  
  • Contribute to team capability, talent development and a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.  
  • Represent the Division in governance forums and partner with stakeholders to support strategic, regulatory and resilience initiatives. 

What will you bring?

 

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following: 

 

  • Extensive expertise in change risk management, execution risk and non-financial risk frameworks, including the ANZ Delivery Framework.  
  • Strong understanding of institutional banking, including Markets, Transaction Banking, Corporate Finance and Coverage business models and operating environments.  
  • Proven ability to identify, assess and manage non-financial risks through strong analytical thinking and practical risk solutions.  
  • Experience leading risk, control or regulatory change initiatives within complex financial services environments.  
  • Knowledge of prudential, conduct and operational risk regulatory expectations relevant to institutional banking.  
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex risk matters into clear and actionable insights.  
  • A curious, adaptable and growth-oriented mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement and delivering strong risk outcomes.  
  • Experience using data, management information, visualisation tools and risk systems to support governance, reporting and decision-making.  
  • Familiarity with enterprise governance tools, control monitoring frameworks and risk management practices.  
  • Tertiary qualifications in risk, finance, commerce, law, business or a related discipline are desirable, with relevant professional qualifications highly regarded.
