Internal Audit (IA) serves as the independent third line in ANZ’s three lines of defence (3LOD) governance model. Our IA function is made up of multiple teams that work together to help the bank move at pace safely, leveraging our enterprise-wide perspective and independence.

 

The Head of Internal Audit, China should embody IA’s aspiration to be the leading audit function and a trusted independent voice promoting strong risk management across the bank. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders, influence strategic decisions, and drive continuous improvement across ANZ’s China business.

 

This role is accountable for providing relevant and timely independent assurance across the risk and control environment for ANZ China. The HIA designs assurance activities, co-ordinates their delivery and maintains robust relationships with key stakeholders including executive management, the ANZ China Audit Committee and external regulators, as well as the wider ANZ Internal Audit team.

What will your day look like?

 

 

As the Head of Internal Audit, China, you will be accountable for:

 

  • Leading the design and overseeing the timely delivery of high-quality assurance that effectively identifies risks and controls, ensuring audits meet objectives and are completed within budget.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders to gain buy-in for audit outcomes and driving improvements in the risk and control environment.
  • Developing a deep understanding of business strategy and sharing insights with the audit team to support proactive risk management and add value.
  • Ensuring adherence to regulatory expectations and requirements.
  • Contributing to strategic initiatives and maintaining a current view of the ANZ China risk landscape through ongoing feedback and collaboration.
  • Bringing to life Internal Audit’s employee value proposition through effective development and performance management of IA team members, including through ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Working closely with the Internal Audit Extended Leadership Team to deliver assurance plans and contribute to the delivery of IA strategy.

 

What will you bring?

 

 

To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Substantial relevant professional work experience in an institutional banking and financial services environment, either in internal / external audit, OR risk management / assurance.
  • Strong understanding of risk, control, and regulatory frameworks and best practices within an Institutional banking environment, including extensive experience interacting with China regulators.
  • In-depth understanding of global internal audit standards (e.g. IIA) and methodology.
  • Proven ability to lead complex assurance portfolios, using data analytics to enhance risk assessment and audit execution. Hands-on experience with generative AI and automation would be beneficial.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with a track record of working effectively with senior executives, and strong report writing and stakeholder presentation skills.
  • Proven experience in leading and inspiring teams, including communicating a compelling vision and using a range of leadership styles appropriate to the situation.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with strong communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
  • A collaborative, growth-oriented mindset with a passion for innovation, continuous learning, and emerging technologies.
