About the Role
As an Assistant Manager, Business Governance & Controls (BG&C), this role plays a critical part in enhancing the organization’s Non-Financial Risk (NFR) management framework by providing subject matter expertise and oversight across key risk domains including Model, Legal, People, Physical Security, and Transaction, Processing and Execution risks. Operating within the First Line of Defense (1LoD), the role leads Operational Risk Stress Testing, manages staff scoring deduction frameworks, and conducts business risk assessments, thematic reviews, and targeted testing. Through these activities, the role strengthens operational resilience, embeds a culture of accountability, and drives continuous improvement in governance and risk control effectiveness.

What will your day look like?
As an Assistant Manager, Business Governance & Controls (BG&C), you will;
- Act as a trusted advisor to business units, offering expert guidance on non-financial risk management to support strategic goals and governance alignment.
- Lead and execute Operational Risk Stress Testing, including scenario design, assumption planning, desktop rehearsals, and reporting.
- Conduct business risk assessments and manage risk/control profiles, including risk acceptances, treatment plans, and issue resolution.
- Provide subject matter expertise on Financial Crime and Operational Resilience, supporting thematic risk reviews and control enhancements.
- Coordinate and perform control testing activities such as Surprise Leave Checks, Control Self-Assessments, and BG&C-led reviews.
- Support business units in designing, embedding, and improving risk processes, including automation and simplification of controls.
- Oversee staff scoring deduction management, including training, tracking, implementation, and register maintenance in collaboration with T&C.
- Prepare and submit local regulatory reports, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with reporting obligations.
- Provide compliance and control design support, helping business units meet control objectives and manage obligations effectively.
- Guide business teams through change risk assessments (CRMAs, NFRAs), ensuring risks are identified and mitigated during implementation.
- Engage stakeholders across Operations, Legal, T&C, and Property with enthusiasm and clarity, driving ownership and accountability for risk.
- Serve as the ANZ China Company Chop coordinator and custodian, ensuring proper governance and documentation.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Strong knowledge of core non-financial risk domains, including regulatory obligations and risk assessment methodologies such as NFRAs and CRMAs
- Proven mastery of the non-financial risk operating model, NFR framework, and familiarity with NFR Hub dashboards and tools
- Demonstrated experience in control testing, validation, and review—including CSA sample checks, special tests, and remediation planning
- Ability to assess control effectiveness, identify gaps, and implement improvements across the control environment
- Solid capability in managing end-to-end issue and event processes, including documentation, root cause analysis, SLA oversight, escalation, and system tracking
- Skilled in translating event insights into systemic control enhancements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage cross-functional teams, educate business units, and support cultural uplift
- Experience managing stakeholder expectations across internal teams and external regulators, including audit readiness and reporting
- Proactive learner who stays current with evolving risks, controls, tools, and regulatory requirements
- Adaptable mindset with the ability to embrace change and new processes in dynamic environments
- Positive and persistent approach to problem-solving, with a track record of driving initiatives to completion
