About the Role
As the Head of Business Governance & Controls, you will ensure effective non-financial risk management aligned with ANZ’s I.AM Framework, working closely with senior leaders and teams to uphold strong governance across operational and compliance requirements while supporting ANZ Korea’s business objectives. You will lead the implementation of group-wide risk initiatives, execute core assurance functions, and advise on emerging risks and strategic improvements. Additionally, you will promote a mature risk culture through education, manage business continuity, and provide operational risk guidance across policies, procedures, products, and projects.
Business Governance & Controls (BG&C) serves as ANZ’s Control Officer function within the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Framework, ensuring the business operates within risk appetite and policy requirements. It supports Line 1 Risk Owners by embedding the NFR culture, monitoring risk performance, and advising on effective control design and implementation. BG&C also consolidates governance activities, provides strategic risk insights, and helps uplift risk awareness and capabilities across the business. Additionally, it offers support in business continuity, crisis management, and product/channel reviews to strengthen the overall control environment.

What will your day look like?
As the Head of Business Governance & Controls, you will:
• Execute core assurance functions under ANZ’s I.AM Framework Control Officer role (including risk profiling, control testing, KRI monitoring, event and treatment management, audit item remediation tracking)
• Perform risk assessments and facilitating acceptance by relevant senior stakeholders or business remediation as required
• Preparation for and participation in Risk Management Committee / Forums (reporting and advising on performance of key risk metrics
• Deliver Country Risk Attestations (CPS220/CPS234)
• Identify trends and emerging risks relevant to business context and advising country leadership team on strategic improvements in the Risk & Control environment
• Manage business continuity assurance in line with ANZ framework requirements
• Drive non-financial risk awareness, education and training promoting operational risk management as a core capability for all within an active, mature Risk Culture
• Deliver Operational risk review and advisory in local policy, procedure, product and projects
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
• Strong experience in operational risk management within banking or financial services.
• Proven leadership and line management capabilities
• In-depth knowledge of Risk and Compliance frameworks.
• Skilled in managing senior stakeholder relationships, with strong influencing and negotiation skills.
• Ability to prioritize effectively and manage conflicts constructively.
• Familiarity with ANZ’s Institutional Business structure and the I.AM Amplified transformation.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement business process improvements.
• Sound understanding of Korea’s banking regulations, legislation, and market practices.
• Experience working with 2nd line of defence risk functions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proactive in challenging the status quo to drive risk-aware decision-making.
• Holds a university degree with extensive experience in risk management roles.
