About the Role
As a Systems Engineer (ShiftOps) in Enterprise Service Operations (ESO), you will play a key role in monitoring all the applications systems and tasks and supervise the shift assigned to the operator through tools and provide first level support in case of any issues and proactively monitor the applications and systems to avoid critical impacts to the production. You will also escalate unresolved issues to respective support groups and ensure timely resolution.
Enterprise Service Operations (ESO) oversees the delivery of consistent, protected and reliable bank services, including visibility of the health, flow and stability of the bank’s critical operations and services, 24/7. Our core purpose is to ensure ANZ is resilient and well-placed to respond to disruptions when they occur.
We operate within Group Technology and across the enterprise, to facilitate and lead ANZ’s unified Major Incident response, and maintain the bank’s overall state of readiness.

What will your day look like?
As a Systems Engineer (Shift Ops), you will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Oversee and manage mainframe shift operations to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the mainframe systems.
- Monitor system performance, identify issues or anomalies, and take corrective actions to maintain system stability and availability.
- Manage the allocated responsibilities as defined in the Incident Management Process for its effective and efficient operation.
- Handle and escalate incidents or problems that arise during the shift, coordinating with technical teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Operate assigned platform(s) to provide reliable, secure and effective first level support to users/ customers.
- Undertake remedial action independently under limited guidance and keep internal users/ customers informed of progress.
- Control, monitor and maintain service availability according to defined standards and procedures.
- Analyze, evaluate and prioritize incidents, changes and work requests and actions to resolve conflict or escalate to next level of support to ensure agreed service levels of performance are met.
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation of operations activities, incidents, and changes for reference and audit purposes.
- Troubleshoot mainframe hardware, software, and network issues, working with technical teams to resolve complex problems and implement solutions.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Significant experience in computer operations, with proven to extensive years of experience in multi-vendor system environments (IBM and/ or Tandem and/ or Midrange systems operations and systems management)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Job Control Language (JCL) and /or systems operation and/or systems management, and on-line transaction processing systems (such as IMS, CICS, BASE24).
- Perform advance troubleshooting and monitoring for Tandem (NonStop / Authentic)
- Hands-on experience working with Base24
- Hands-on experience working in Control-M GUI (IBM tool) for batch job monitoring
- Understand infrastructure and application issues to a level that allows ‘escalate or fix’ decisions
- Well-developed data analysis skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Proven to extensive years of experience in a first level support type role with technical knowledge to train others
- Understanding of operational/technical people management in a multi-platform environment
- Understand support team functions and structures to allow correct second-level escalation decisions to occur
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and, demonstrated ability to liaise with all levels of management and external parties
- Mainframe – Control M, ISPF, $avers, Console, Netview
- Tertiary qualifications in IT or related discipline preferred.
