About the Role
As a Lawyer in the Legal team, you will play a key role in:
- Providing technically excellent, commercially relevant, strategic, and solutions-oriented legal and regulatory advice to the ANZ PNG business on a broad range of matters, including secured and unsecured lending transactions with Institutional customers, disputes and litigation, and procurement.
- Providing well-organised and timely support on corporate governance matters and company secretarial matters in respect of ANZ PNG.
- Contributing to the efficient delivery of products and services to customers, including assisting the ANZ PNG business to achieve its strategic objectives.

What will your day look like?
As a Lawyer, you are accountable for:
- Providing technically excellent, commercially relevant, strategic, and solutions-oriented legal and regulatory advice to the ANZ PNG business on a broad range of matters. This includes drafting, negotiating, and advising on lending and security documentation with Institutional customers, managing and supporting disputes and litigation, supporting procurement activities, and advising on actual or potential risk events.
- Providing well-organised and timely support on corporate governance matters and company secretarial matters in respect of ANZ PNG. This includes preparing agendas and packs for Board meetings, supporting related activities by the Board or members of the Board, ensuring timely statutory filings, and supporting maintenance of company records.
- Driving or supporting change initiatives to support compliance with legal/regulatory frameworks, improve risk management, enhance simplification, support ANZ PNG’s strategic objectives, and promote knowledge sharing and education.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Papua New Guinea law degree and current legal practising certificate.
- Proven post-qualification experience in a law firm or equivalent in-house role.
- Strong knowledge of PNG banking and financial services law and regulations.
- Proven ability to identify, manage, and advise on legal, regulatory, and strategic risks.
- Experience in corporate governance/company secretarial support, disputes, and litigation.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills in commercial and financial contexts.
- Ability to translate complex legal issues into practical business insights.
- Strong business acumen and customer focus; capable of building stakeholder relationships.
- High-volume matter management under pressure with clear, professional communication.
- Experience in engaging with regulators and auditors.
- Driving or supporting change initiatives in medium to large organizations.
