About the Role
As Director, Research & Analysis, Institutional, you will a play a key leadership role within Papua New Guinea across the end-to-end relationship credit management process; setting research direction to support origination support and transaction structuring; overseeing segment and client-specific analysis; translating complex market, industry and financial information into insights and analysis that support Papua New Guinea Institutional decision making, risk assessment and strategic engagement and transaction delivery.
Your responsibility includes leading the development and delivery of high quality globally consistent, proactive credit analytics and insights across Papua New Guinea Institutional client segments, focused on Diversified Industries. In addition, the role will deputise in supporting the Head of R&A in their oversight of the Institutional Papua New Guinea Portfolio.

What will your day look like?
- Leadership of direct reports and their respective customer file management; risk analysis and assessment (including emerging risks), driving transactions to completion with the Relationship and Product teams;
- Setting direction and priorities for research within the segment and supports relationship, credit and strategic decisions including embedding research into client engagement and decision making;
- Diversified Industries portfolio oversight and management incl well managed frameworks, governance, NFR, stakeholder engagement.;
- Representation and leadership of the Papua New Guinea Institutional client business with key clients for origination and ongoing assessment purposes as well as supporting the Head of R&A at respective risk and governance forums including engagement with external stakeholders (auditors, regulators re all GCA & GIA reviews). Includes exercising Credit Approval Discretion;
- Training and development of R&A Diversified Industries team, including technical standards and front-line risk;
- Help lead and drive the Institutional Papua New Guinea’s growth strategy by driving change and efficiency improvement (gains) across policy, process and risk functions, leading required project work and role modelling ANZ’s values.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Extensive institutional banking experience with deep credit risk expertise across large corporates, strong relationship management, financial modelling, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong institutional banking credit credentials, including senior credit authority certification, formal credit delegation progression, or equivalent senior relationship and credit leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of risk governance, escalation frameworks, portfolio risk, RWAs, concentrations, and early warning indicators, with exposure to ANZ Risk & Compliance.
- Proven ability to support origination, structuring, and execution while balancing growth ambitions with sound credit discipline.
- Experienced in partnering with Relationship, Risk, Product, Legal, and Compliance teams.
- Highly commercial, collaborative, and self-directed, with strong communication skills and a growth mindset.
- Demonstrated leadership of senior professionals, with the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of ANZ core products, multi-product structuring, and complex cross-border/offshore transactions.
- Proven track record managing large, high-risk or stressed exposures, including Papua New Guinea-related security and IP charge arrangements.
- Consistently exercises sound credit judgment on complex institutional exposures while maintaining governance, policy integrity, and regulatory compliance.
- Identifies emerging risks, concentration issues, and early warning signals, driving portfolio outcomes through proactive risk management.
- Leads, develops, and performance-manages teams, building sustainable succession pipelines and capability.
- Drives process standardisation, operational efficiencies, and consistent credit quality standards.
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Law, or equivalent experience.
