About the Role
Papua New Guinea is a significant contributor to ANZ Institutional, supporting key institutional clients across financial institutions, development partners, multilateral agencies and public-sector stakeholders.
As an Associate Director, Financial Institutions, you will lead ANZ PNG’s coverage of strategically important institutional clients, growing a high-value portfolio to deliver sustainable, risk-adjusted revenue and system connectivity outcomes. You are accountable for driving FIG strategy in PNG, including deepening engagement across superannuation, development partners and interbank markets, while ensuring strong governance, regulatory compliance and non-financial risk (NFR) management across the portfolio.
You will represent ANZ’s presence in the PNG market through active participation in industry forums, stakeholder engagement and thought leadership, reinforcing ANZ’s position as a trusted institutional partner.

What will your day look like?
- Manage and grow a FIG portfolio of 50+ clients, delivering revenue, return, and share-of-wallet growth targets.
- Build and maintain senior relationships with banks, multilaterals, embassies, and NBFIs, positioning ANZ as a trusted financial partner.
- Originate, and execute multi-product solutions across lending, transaction banking, and markets.
- Translate ANZ Institutional and FIG strategies into effective local market initiatives and support PNG financial system connectivity and liquidity development.
- Ensure compliance with ANZ's regulatory, risk, AML/CTF, sanctions, and governance frameworks while balancing growth and portfolio quality.
- Act as the primary relationship owner for FIG clients, influencing senior stakeholders and driving aligned outcomes across ANZ.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Strong knowledge of the PNG market, including key industries, regulatory frameworks, and economic drivers.
- Sound understanding of financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) preferred but not essential
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain senior stakeholder relationships and trusted partnerships.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills across product, risk, and support functions.
- Strategic thinking and business planning capabilities, with the ability to translate vision into execution.
- Demonstrated alignment to ANZ values and a track record of delivering well-managed outcomes.
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
