About the Role
ANZ is currently in the final stages of obtaining regulatory authorisation to establish a subsidiary in the European Union (EU) based in Paris (France), which will operate alongside the existing European offices (London, Paris and Frankfurt Branch). ANZ Europe SA’s strategy will be to provide existing and prospective EU customers with access to ANZ’s global capabilities in corporate finance, trade and markets.
As part of this license application, ANZ is seeking to appoint the Head of Audit for ANZ Europe SA, who will be responsible for managing and overseeing the Internal Audit function for the subsidiary.
The appointment of this role is subject to approval of the ACPR regulatory body and the approval of license application of the European Subsidiary (ANZ Europe SA).
As the Head of Audit at ANZ Europe SA, you will be responsible for providing relevant and timely independent assurance for the risk and control environment for the ANZ Europe SA. The role designs assurance activities and co-ordinates their delivery, with this role being the key driver for the build and execution of the Internal Audit Plan for ANZ Europe SA. As part of the broader Europe & America Internal Audit team, this role will also contribute to the internal audit program across the region and the wider Institutional division.
The role is classified as a Material Risk Taker under ACPR “Code monétaire et financier” Ordonnance 2020-1635 rules, therefore its remuneration is subject to specific remuneration policies and practices, as per outlined in the regulations
What will your day look like?
As the Head of Audit at ANZ Europe SA, you will:
- Propose Internal Audit (IA) resource requirements to support institutional audit budget planning.
- Monitor progress of the assurance plan, ensuring delivery aligns with time and budget expectations.
- Regularly review and revise audit schedules, promoting team flexibility for smooth execution.
- Design assurance activities to effectively address IA objectives and emerging risks.
- Cultivate strong, constructive relationships with first and second line stakeholders for audit buy-in and action.
- Engage positively with internal Board / Risk Committees, regulators and external bodies to strengthen IA’s standing and value.
- Collaborate across the Europe & America IA team to drive strategic initiatives and support assurance delivery.
- Keep a current view of the risk and control landscape for your portfolio, using insights to inform plans.
- Manage audit follow-ups, data quality, and provide timely and meaningful monthly reports.
- Guide, coach, and empower team members during audits to balance results with development.
- Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration within IA to improve collective impact.
- Demonstrate ANZ values and leadership by fostering integrity, curiosity, accountability, and respect throughout your work.
What will you bring?
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Substantial relevant experience in Internal Audit or risk management, coupled with significant banking & finance industry knowledge. Able to lead audits with minimal supervision.
- Deep understanding of institutional banking, particularly Markets, and key regulatory domains such as AML, CTF, sanctions, and operational risk.
- Proven expertise in assessing risks and controls across complex business areas and delivering assurance projects that drive tangible improvement.
- A track record of building trusted relationships with senior executives, with strong emotional intelligence, influence, and negotiation capabilities.
- Deep familiarity with the French and EU regulatory landscape, including successful engagement with key regulatory authorities.
- Strategic thinker with an enterprise-wide mindset, able to identify and act on opportunities that add value across the organisation.
- Committed people leader who fosters accountability, delivers clear and constructive feedback, and empowers team development.
- Excellent communicator, skilled in distilling complex concepts, listening actively, and providing forward-thinking problem-solving support.
- Strong conflict resolution, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Professionally qualified (e.g. CPA/CA) and/or post-graduate credentials that reinforce technical proficiency and leadership depth.
- A trusted advisor who actively contributes to elevating audit standards and shaping a strong risk culture.
- In addition, fluency in French is required and proficiency for other European languages preferred as the role will interact with EU regulators.
