Mō te tūranga - About the role
Be part of ANZ’s Cards Switch team and help power the real‑time processing of millions of card transactions across New Zealand — from ATMs and in‑store purchases to online payments. Our switch ensures every transaction is validated, authorised, routed, and processed securely and instantly. You’ll be working at the heart of a platform that moves high‑speed, bidirectional payment traffic between merchants, ATMs, acquirers, issuers, and card schemes.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like
You will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to gather, analyse and document requirements for card transaction processing — including VisaNet, Mastercard and New Zealand domestic message protocols.
- Translating business needs into clear functional and non‑functional requirements, ensuring accurate and high‑quality implementation.
- Working closely with delivery squads and external vendors to shape solutions and ensure technical feasibility.
- Developing and maintain structured documentation such as use cases, process flows, and data models.
- Contributing to safe, compliant delivery aligned to card scheme mandates, PCI requirements, operational risk standards, and ANZ technology frameworks.
- Supporting testing phases to ensure solutions meet business and regulatory expectations.
- Providing subject‑matter insight into settlement processing, ensuring timely and accurate downstream processing of transactions.
- Using basic SQL to investigate issues and support requirements analysis.
- Assisting in production incident and problem management, helping diagnose and resolve issues quickly to minimise customer impact.
- Working flexibly across business and technical analysis in a cross‑functional Agile squad.
- Identifying gaps, risks and improvement opportunities across systems, processes and data flows.
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
To thrive and excel in this role, you should ideally possess the following:
- 5+ years as a Technology Business Analyst, ideally in the card payments industry.
- Strong understanding of ATM/POS‑acquired card transaction authorisation, routing, and processing.
- Knowledge of card industry message formats (Visa, Mastercard, NZ domestic).
- Experience supporting card transaction settlement and downstream processing.
- Experience in data management for transaction processing including integrity, security, and compliance.
- Experience with production incident analysis and problem management.
- Strong requirements elicitation, analysis, and management capability.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience in Agile and SDLC delivery environments.
- Ability to work independently and manage ambiguity.
- Understanding of New Zealand payments ecosystem (issuers, acquirers, merchants).
- SQL skills for problem investigation and requirements analysis.
