Mō te tūranga - About the role
ANZ is undergoing a significant multi-year technological transformation. At the heart of this transformation is the modernisation of the core banking platform. We’re looking for a talented Data Modeller Lead to strategically shape and drive the data modelling practice across ANZ. You’ll establish governance frameworks, enhance modelling maturity, and ensure conceptual and logical models are aligned with business outcomes. You’ll actively contribute to governance forums, support architectural data design, and promote AI-readiness and data-as-a-product principles. Automation and tooling to accelerate delivery and improve modelling efficiency are key focuses, alongside hands-on contribution to data modelling itself.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like
- Vision, Capability Uplift & Mentorship: Lead and mentor data modellers, driving capability uplift through learning pathways, including foundational and advanced modelling, BIAN semantics, and metadata management.
- Tool Proficiency & Technical Execution: Apply advanced modelling techniques (logical, physical, dimensional, ontology-based) using tools such as ER/Studio, EA Sparx, and Power Designer. Ensure models are validated, version-controlled, and integrated with metadata-driven orchestration and lineage tools.
- Model Ownership Across Lifecycle: Partner with Data Product Owners to embed logical data models into reusable, governed data products that align to business needs and AI-readiness.
- Enterprise Alignment: Collaborate with architects and engineers to ensure models fit enterprise architecture and support consistent data definitions across systems. Integrate models and business semantics into enterprise catalogues and discovery tools.
- Governance and Standards: Ensure data models comply with governance policies, standards, and regulations. Promote best practices in metadata, naming, and lineage.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with business stakeholders to ensure models reflect business requirements and semantics. Facilitate conversations and model walkthroughs to validate and refine logical designs.
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
As a Data Modelling Lead in our Enterprise Architecture team, you will have:
- Experience in leading, influencing, and coaching others to adopt best practices and consistency across projects.
- Advanced experience applying data modelling techniques (logical, physical, dimensional, ontology-based).
- Expertise in data modelling platforms (e.g. ER/Studio, EA Sparx, Power Designer).
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Experience with metadata-driven orchestration, API-driven, and event-driven architectures.
- Strong understanding of modelling in cloud-based and hybrid environments.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
It would be an added bonus if you have:
- Hands-on experience with Agile, DevOps, and iterative development.
- Advanced query techniques for analysis and reporting.
- Working knowledge of semantic modelling (ontology, knowledge graphs) for AI-ready architectures.
- Experience applying banking and financial data standards in the financial services industry.
- Industry certifications related to data modelling (e.g. BIAN)
