Mō te tūranga - About the role
As a Business Analyst in our Data Delivery team, you’ll play a key role in providing analysis expertise to support the delivery of complex initiatives across the business. You’ll be applying data and business analysis skills & techniques to understand, validate, synthesize and articulate problems and opportunities to support the development and delivery of data solutions.
This intermediate-level role is ideal for Business Analysts with a passion for data, or for engineers and data analysts eager to move closer to the business. You’ll apply structured techniques to gather and document requirements, model data, and support delivery teams in building scalable, high-integrity solutions. Expect to work hands-on in the data warehouse—writing SQL queries, exploring datasets, and collaborating with stakeholders to shape solutions that deliver meaningful impact.

Success in this role means being curious, asking the right questions, and keeping an eye on both business outcomes and technical feasibility. You’ll navigate ambiguity, uncover what’s really needed, and work with delivery teams to bring robust, reliable data solutions to life.
As a Business Analyst, you will:
- Work across multiple delivery pods, collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to capture and provide an end-to-end view of business requirements, technical specifications.
- Write SQL queries to explore data, validate assumptions, and support solution design.
- Facilitate workshops and conversations to uncover true business needs and translate them into actionable insights.
- Provide business analysis support and contribute to delivering initiatives under the guidance of senior team members.
- Help develop requirements that are fit for purpose and accurate, understanding their implications for the project or program, and assist in managing these requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Create clear and engaging presentations and documentation to communicate customer needs, business and technical requirements, insights, and recommendations.
- Ensure that assigned business analysis activities are conducted efficiently and within agreed timeframes, and that the outputs and benefits are well understood.
- Share knowledge, contribute to team growth, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement across Data Delivery.
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Experience as a Business Analyst operating in technology / data domain, preferably in an agile set up.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyse large, complex datasets to identify trends, gaps, and insights.
- Foundational understanding of data warehousing concepts & proficiency in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
- Ability to facilitate conversations and workshops to define, elicit, and articulate customer data needs and technical specifications to deliver the required solutions or functions.
- Experience representing data, technical, and business requirements through various BA Tools & methods (e.g., story maps, BRDs, FDDs, technical specifications, business rules, data models, data flow diagrams) and building backlogs to support iterative development.
- Analytical skills, combined with a high level of organization and flexibility in responding to changing priorities.
- A natural ability to build relationships with stakeholders and comfort leading conversations with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Proficiency in using authorised AI tools to enhance BA practices and support GenAI improvement initiatives.
What sets you apart: Experience with Teradata, Airflow, or Ab Initio, intermediate- advanced SQL skills, Python for analysis/prototyping, exposure to UAT and data governance practices.
