Head of Tax, USA
About Us
At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our customers. Our Institutional bank helps our largest customers move trade and capital around the region, providing our people with great opportunities to build their technical expertise and their careers.
About the Role
As a Head of Tax, USA in our Enterprise Finance team, you will hold a senior leadership role with end‑to‑end accountability for ANZ’s United States tax outcomes within a highly regulated banking environment.
You are anchored in the United States, reflecting the scale, complexity, and regulatory intensity of the US market. While ANZ operates a global tax operating model with strong internal support, you will remain personally accountable for senior judgment, escalation, and regulatory engagement.
Banking is changing and we’re changing with it, giving our people great opportunities to try new things, learn and grow. Whatever your role at ANZ, you’ll be building your future, while helping to build ours.

- Providing senior judgment on complex, sensitive, or precedent‑setting tax matters
- Serving as the primary interface with US tax authorities, auditors, and senior stakeholders
- Leading hands‑on audit and regulatory defence, with strong discipline around documentation, controls, and execution, working with internal tax specialists and delivery teams
- Providing leadership to an existing US‑based tax resource, ensuring capability, continuity, and development
- Operating within ANZ’s Institutional Tax function with support from an established Tax Centre of Excellence (CoE) operating as a team‑extension model
- Retaining full end‑to‑end accountability for technical judgment, escalation, regulatory engagement, and risk outcomes
- Actively leading and scaling the use of internal support as appropriate to strengthen delivery discipline and enable focus on senior judgment and stakeholder engagement

- Experience leading audits, regulatory interactions and complex tax positions
- Strong commercial judgment and senior‑level stakeholder engagement capability
- Experience leading and developing tax capability
- A hands‑on, accountable leadership style, with disciplined use of advisers
- Professional tax qualification (e.g. CPA or equivalent) desirable
