Mō te tūranga - About the role

 

The Senior Data Engineer plays a pivotal role in shaping our data landscape, delivering comprehensive solutions that guide business intelligence and strategic decision-making. Working within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary squad, this role involves sourcing, extracting, moving, and modelling data to build valuable data assets and create insightful reporting solutions. With a focus on reliability, the Senior Data Engineer ensures all processes and controls are meticulously followed, contributing to best data engineering practices within the analytical platforms.

 

This role is central to maintaining high standards of quality assurance, adhering to and enhancing technical governance and quality control standards. From translating business requirements to securely surfacing data, the Senior Data Engineer is integral to the entire development process, providing technical leadership and mentorship along the way. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on data-driven insights and innovation, ensuring compliance with ANZ strategies and regulatory requirements.

Hours: Standard (37.5 hours per week)

You will be responsible for:

 

  • Offering specialist technical expertise on best practice design that complies with architectural standards and guidelines.
  • Creating stable, secure, scalable, extensible, and maintainable solutions that meet long-term business and customer needs.
  • Producing reusable data assets that stakeholders can leverage to identify key trends, insights, and reporting.
  • Providing operational and functional support for systems.
  • Mentoring developers through designing, coding, configuring, and testing solutions.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

 

To succeed and excel in this role, you will need to have the following:

 

  • Proven experience with SAS, including Enterprise Guide (EG) and Data Integration (DI) Studio, is essential.
  • Understanding of data engineering practices and frameworks
  • Experience with database platforms such as Teradata, Oracle, MS SQL
  • Experience designing and creating data models, including pipeline management and creation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to consult and influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders to gather user requirements.
  • Capability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Skill in identifying opportunities in existing processes and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and presentation.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities, setting clear, achievable goals, prioritising tasks, and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in data warehousing and ELT across a broad technology stack.
