Mō te tūranga - About the role
As a Senior Commercial Manager Technology in our Performance and Planning team, you’ll play a key role in developing and executing commercial strategies to optimise the value of technology investments. You will have practical experience in developing and managing complex technology commercial arrangements, working with senior stakeholders, and influencing strategic direction setting using data and structured analysis.
This technology-focused role is pivotal in driving successful outcomes through the application of rigorous commercial practices and risk management disciplines for the technology domain.
The role requires the cultivation of strong internal and external relationships by leveraging your product and services knowledge, along with your exceptional commercial and vendor management skills. Fostering connections is key to maintaining high standards and achieving organisational goals and the effective coordination and delivery of obligations with suppliers and technology vendors.

You will be responsible for:
- Working across the tech domain to identify opportunities for commercial leverage and cost savings, and optimising processes to achieve smarter and faster outcomes.
- Managing upcoming contracts across a variety of programs, including AI, data optimisation, and delivery optimisation
- Cultivating strong supplier relationships by leveraging extensive product and services knowledge balancing risk/reward more effectively with partners
- Applying commercial practices of tech investments and risk management within a technological construct, including contractual, data, and regulatory aspects.
- Addressing vendor issues with problem-solving abilities and ensuring effective collaboration through strong influencing skills.
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
To thrive and excel in this role, you should ideally possess the following:
- Commercially astute with a solid background in managing a tech environment, possibly having led a software development team or operational platforms.
- Ability to define and drive strategic direction in managing key vendors, both onshore and offshore.
- Strong influencing, negotiation, documentation, analytics, and presentation skills, with experience working with varying stakeholders.
- Clear and deep understanding of a broad range of sourcing and supplier/vendor management activities.
- Strong financial and technology operational management skills, with emphasis on managing vendors and managed service outsourcing and associated contract management.
- Ability to coach and develop others, particularly in roles impacted by multi-sourced/outsourced vendor management.
- Project management experience is beneficial, though it is not the primary focus of this role.
