About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Transaction Banking, Southeast Asia, India and Middle East. with matrix accountability to the Country Head, of India, the Head of Transaction Banking will present, execute and deliver the strategy for Transaction Banking in the areas of customer target segmentation, client engagement, product distribution and delivery, and risk management and control, with direct oversight over the end-to-end management of the business. The candidate will be part of the country Leadership Team. You will lead a team providing Cash Management and Trade Finance solutions to ANZ’s Institutional customers in India through an effective strategy that is aligned with ANZ’s target customer segments and their evolving needs.
You will provide a strong people and industry leadership and effective collaboration with key stakeholders (global, regional and in-country senior leadership) whilst maintaining direct oversight for the delivery of Transaction Banking solutions. You need to have an understanding of the India banking market including the regulations and compliance requirements and display the ability to balance between business and regulation and compliance requirements.
You will bring together capabilities in sales generation, deal execution, people management and business risk management. You will provide a strategic direction for a senior and experienced sales team and ensuring a disciplined approach to tracking and delivery of sales revenue, as well as enhancing ‘best in class sales practices. You will build relationships with senior client contacts to effectively grow the client relationships together with the team. In addition, effective collaboration across different stakeholders beyond India is also required to ensure market opportunities across ANZ’s footprint is maximized.
From a risk management perspective, you will be the end-to-end owner of the Transaction Banking risk in-country. Of particular significance will be the focus to prevent Non-Financial Risks (NFR) from forming and if an NFR has occurred, to deal quickly and effectively with the NFR to minimize and reduce risk to the business. Your experience dealing with local NFR risk in India will have an advantage.

What will your day look like?
- Achieve targeted growth in financial performance including Balance Sheet and other performance metrics such as ROE, Revenue/RWA, ZCEP, NPAT and NIM
- Maximize profitable growth and drive sales momentum and customer pipeline for new revenue, organic growth and retention across new and existing customer relationships via sales management platforms
- Lead and drive complex and large value transactions as well as deliver all strategic initiatives
- Take a proactive role in ALCO’s to ensure optimum outcomes for the Bank & Transaction Banking
- Grow ANZ’s Transaction Banking product market share across priority segments
- Build accretive customer relationships focused on ANZ’s returns and maximize value for ANZ where capital is deployed
- Drive customer-centric sales/industry strategies that are closely aligned with our customer segmentation model
- Improve market position as measured by external polls and market surveys
- Ensure effective systems through engagement with relationship and risk teams to proactively manage risks (credit, operational, regulatory and compliance)
- Represent TB within the country management teams and play an active part in the country leadership agenda
- Provide people leadership and guidance across the entire TB team in-country through clear and well-defined objective setting, development programs and staff engagement
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Extensive experience in banking focused on Transaction Banking
- Ability to build client relationships and track record of growing a sales business
- Proven track record in strong stakeholder management and understanding of regulatory environment
- Sound understanding of the Transaction Banking business, capable of facilitating a strategic dialogue at senior management/executive level
- Strong customer focus and relationship management skills and experience
- Sound understanding of the business and market environment in which ANZ operates including industry trends, the economic and regulatory landscape and implications for ANZ and our customers
- Result oriented with strong display of perseverance
- Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills
- Enterprise leadership skills, seen as a strong role model including managing performance, talent, mentoring and developing others
- Local language skills would be an added advantage as the role will be communicating with both local and global stakeholders
- Tertiary qualification in related discipline
