Financial Crime Threat Management (FCTM) strives to protect our business and communities against financial crime threats. FCTM utilise customer data and intelligence to detect, investigate and escalate potentially suspicious activity such as money laundering, financing of terrorism, and activity involving sanctioned parties. FCTM specialists work within the Financial Crime Portfolio to support businesses across the group in complying with financial crime regulatory obligations. The Manager, Threat Response & Capability will be responsible for managing and supporting key Financial Crime systems (including large data repositories and intelligence assets) and developing capability for the wider Financial Crime Portfolio (FCP) through the delivery and maintenance of new systems, tools and resources. This team will also integrate with the wider FCTM Investigations, Intelligence, Detection, and List Management functions in the delivery of new assets, including dynamic algorithms designed to identify instances of potentially criminal activity according to known red flag indicators.

What will your day look like

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Intelligence assets within the FCP, including the Financial Crime Data Hub. Make recommendations as necessary for strategy uplift and expansion, and explore options to increase the scope of data ingestion to encompass additional sources.
  • Support and expand the range of Intelligence applications available to analysts within the FCP, including i2, Sintelix, Transaction Tracing Tool, DART and Automated Case Narrative (Ultron).
  • Drive the automation agenda in line with project deliverables, and make recommendations to uplift process capability.
  • Develop, test and refine new/existing Dynamic Algorithms to meet specific risk indicators; liaise with the Coverage, Intelligence, Detection and Operational teams to understand requirements and project the alert quality/volume.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing among Financial Crime teams, in particular the FCTM Intelligence and Detection teams, to continually raise capability and deliver quality outcomes (both within Australia and globally).

What will you bring?

  • More than five years modelling experience and/or related technical experience, preferably with regulatory exposure.
  • Proven experience in data governance, including data quality, data lineage and process mapping.
  • Coding experience in Python, R, SQL or SAS
  • Proven experience in processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis. Ability to analyse large data sets with high level of attention to detail.
  • Thinks strategically and commercially, drives an adaptive, agile risk culture and motivates organisational change.
  • Builds trusted advisory relationships across the organisation with a strong ability to influence and succeed through collaboration
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate on both a technical and non-technical level
  • Can understand and interpret complex modelling methodologies and apply different analytical techniques to solve business problems.
  • Sound appreciation of all aspects of compliance and operational risk.
  • A keen understanding of data visualisation (Qlik, Power BI, Tableau) 
  • Excellent technical knowledge around software integration and ETL processes.
