About the role

•    Assist the development and optimisation of risk strategies through the use of data insights and analytics
•    Work with Product, Marketing, Collections, and other business stakeholders to maintain and manage our business writing strategy and risk appetite
•    Develop and maintain timely, accurate and insightful analytics across product lines and help identify early warning indicators

The team is responsible for, amongst other things, delivering value added insights for its core lending and non-lending portfolios of customers across a vast array of Retail Credit products (including Home Loans, Unsecured consumer lending and Small Business Banking products). You will specifically focus on the Home Loans and Unsecured consumer lending portfolios.

Your skillset will enable you to source and interrogate data, working with a focus on the future, with an active understanding of industry trends. You will influence the strategic direction by translating insights into practical business recommendations, communicating team objectives and presenting data in digestible, logical and compelling ways.

What will your day look like

As a Senior Portfolio Risk Analyst, you will:


•    Designing technical solutions to solve business problems and support the generation of core and commercially driven insights for a wide spectrum of audiences within the Bank
•    Collaborating as a subject matter expert on risk data, analytics, policy and system with key stakeholders
•    Deliver on actionable/value-add insights delivering insights to identify emerging risks and optimise portfolio settings using data extraction, transformation and visualisation techniques
•    Deliver improved decision automation, low friction and fast outcomes for customers whilst managing ANZ’s risk appropriately
•    Utilise analytical techniques, leveraging existing data and system infrastructure, to create more tailored decisions and offers that improve customer and business outcome
•    End to end delivery of changes from the origination of ideas and concepts to rollout, co-ordinating with stakeholders across the business
•    Ensuring data and governance capabilities are in place for monitoring of changes in the retail credit risk portfolios to meet internal and regulatory requirements


What will you bring?

•    Tertiary qualified with a degree in Business, Statistics, Science and or Engineering. A focus on quantitative/data would be considered advantageous.
•    Demonstrated experience, ideally in a credit risk function, or experience in a product/marketing/finance/data analytics related function, from the following industry set including, but not limited to, banking/financial services, service providers (such as telecommunications, utilities, etc.) or information/data providers (such as Credit Bureaus).
•    Strong “on the tools” experience, with sound working knowledge and command of data mining and reporting software tools (such as MS Excel, SAS, SQL, Qlik, R, Python).
•    Strong data analytics capabilities with sound math and statistical knowledge.
•    Strong complex & analytic thinking skills that can be applied to solve business problems.
•    Proven problem-solving skills leveraging networks and available resources.
•    Ability to create strong links with P&L and the operational business areas.
•    Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong capabilities to articulate complex analytical information.
•    Essential requirement to have a working knowledge of, and a demonstrated proficiency with statistical software (e.g. R, Python, etc.), in particular SAS to perform ETL (Extract, Transform & Load) for the purposes of analytics and reporting
•    Prior experience working with business decision systems (e.g. Powercurve, Strategy Manager, DP3) is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
•    Existing retail credit product and/or process knowledge or, credit risk knowledge (credit policy/strategy development) is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
