About the Role

The Senior Associate, Risk Assurance supports the delivery of independent, high quality second line risk assurance across material risks facing ANZ. The role is responsible for executing assurance reviews, control testing and remediation closure validation activities under the guidance of the Manager, Risk Assurance and Head of Risk Assurance. 

The role contributes to consistent assurance practices, robust evidence based conclusions and clear reporting to inform risk outcomes and uplift the effectiveness and sustainability of control environments.

What will your day look like?

What you'll be doing:

Risk Assurance Execution
•    Execute risk assurance reviews in accordance with approved assurance plans, methodologies and quality standards.
•    Perform independent testing of key controls (design and operating effectiveness) across operational, compliance, conduct, technology and financial crime risk areas.
•    Assess the effectiveness of risk and control environments, documenting clear, well evidenced findings and conclusions.

Issue & Remediation Closure Validation
•    Support independent validation of issue and remediation closure through evidence review, testing and assessment against regulatory obligations and internal commitments.
•    Identify control weaknesses, gaps and potential sustainability concerns, escalating matters to the Manager, Risk Assurance as appropriate.
•    Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails to support assurance conclusions and regulatory expectations.

Reporting & Governance Support
•    Draft clear, concise assurance deliverables, including working papers, testing summaries and draft reports.
•    Contribute to governance ready reporting by supporting analysis of themes, root causes and residual risk.
•    Respond to requests for assurance evidence and information to support governance forums and regulator engagement.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
•    Work constructively with first line risk and control owners, Compliance and Internal Audit to support effective assurance outcomes.
•    Apply professional scepticism and constructive challenge when assessing evidence and control effectiveness.
•    Support effective coordination across assurance activities to minimise duplication and ensure clarity of roles.

Capability & Continuous Improvement
•    Maintain strong technical capability in risk assurance, control testing and remediation validation practices.
•    Contribute ideas and insights to improve assurance tools, methodologies and ways of working.
•    Role model ANZ values and behaviours, including integrity, accountability and collaboration.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

•    Demonstrated experience in risk assurance, control testing, internal audit or a related second line risk role within financial services.
•    Working knowledge of operational risk, compliance risk and control frameworks.
•    Experience reviewing evidence, performing testing and documenting assurance conclusions.
•    Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and quality.
•    Clear written and verbal communication skills.
•    Previously worked in risk assurance, internal audit, risk management or a related discipline.
