About the Role
As a Senior Operational Risk Manager in our Risk Institutional - Operational Risk & Compliance tribe, you’ll play a key role in helping to ensure the global businesses within their relevant asset class are adequately covered to enable proactive risk management and strengthen risk maturity levels through proactive review and challenge and advice. This role is responsible for independent oversight of the risk profile and risk management framework.
The Senior Manager, Operational Risk, Markets will attend relevant business risk and governance forums, steering committee meetings to provide a clear opinion on the adequacy and maturity of operational risk management, and strategic insights and advice relating to operational risk. The role requires detailed understanding of the Markets business, products and customers, advanced influencing skills and strong written and oral communication capabilities to ultimately help business stakeholders create and maintain strong risk culture.
This senior role is expected to provide on-going support for the wider Markets OR&C team, including taking accountability for delivery of relevant team’s strategic priority areas and role modelling appropriate standards to other members of the team. This role will be required to collaborate effectively division wide including with their team peers, key business stakeholders (including assurance teams), enterprise risk teams, Internal Audit and other areas/functions as required.

What will your day look like?
As a Senior Operational Risk Manager, you will:
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders to drive a proactive, consistent and co-ordinated approach to risk management within their specific asset classes/functions.
- Attend relevant business risk, governance forums, Working Group meetings to highlight operational risks and controls to be taken into account as part of the business’s operational risk management, and provide strategic insights and advice relating to operational risk
- Ensure Business Units meet requirements of ANZ I.AM framework and appropriate identification and management of operational risks, compliance obligations and controls
- Monitor risk profiles, operational risk and compliance events, audit findings, customer complaints, control testing results to identify potential operational risk insights/issues and ensure appropriate responses and escalations from Businesses.
- Perform objective review and challenge of Business risk and control activities, new and product variations, project and BAU initiatives and the resultant impact on business risk profiles.
- Utilise data to ensure efficient and accurate reporting and insight generation, reducing manual effort where possible.
- In partnership with wider OR&C team, champion the oversight and management of operational risks across Institutional Division.
- Drive and increase in understanding of Technology risk across both the team and relevant business areas/functions. Collaborate with relevant SMRs to ensure business areas/functions are proactively managing technology risks and developing appropriate controls and/or remedial actions.
- Lead ‘deep dive’ reviews for portfolio, ensuring thematic insights are developed and value driven output is shared with the business to uplift risk management maturity and/or improve control environment.

- Strong knowledge of Markets business and end to end processes and experience with the ability to review and challenge effectively
- Organisational knowledge and strong technical and/or industry networks (internal and external)
- Ability to build and maintain relationships and successfully influence/negotiate change with senior business stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong management experience with the ability to add value in a highly engaged and motivated team
- Tertiary qualified, proven experience in Operational risk, Audit and/or Assurance related disciplines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
