The Regulatory Relations team plays a critical role in managing ANZ’s enterprise relationships with APRA and ASIC. The team supports consistent, well-governed and effective regulatory engagement, while ensuring senior executives and governance forums have clear visibility of significant regulatory matters.

About the Role

 

As Senior Manager, Regulatory Relations, you will provide enterprise leadership and oversight of ANZ’s relationships and interactions with APRA and ASIC. You will help ensure regulatory communications and submissions are timely, accurate, consistent and managed in accordance with ANZ’s Regulatory Risk Management Policy.

 

You will work closely with senior leaders and business, Risk and Compliance stakeholders to provide advice on regulatory expectations, coordinate effective responses to regulatory matters and support the management of potential adverse regulatory outcomes.

 

This is a highly visible role requiring sound judgement, strong stakeholder management and the ability to confidently manage sensitive and confidential matters. You will also lead and develop a team responsible for supporting and overseeing APRA and ASIC regulatory interactions across ANZ.

What will your day look like?


As the Senior Manager, Regulatory Relations, you will be accountable for:

 

•    Managing ANZ’s enterprise relationships with APRA and ASIC, supporting timely, accurate, clear and consistent regulatory communication.
•    Coordinating and overseeing regulatory interactions, submissions and responses across the bank.
•    Providing trusted advice to senior leaders on APRA and ASIC expectations and emerging regulatory issues.
•    Reviewing and challenging contributions to regulatory submissions to support consistent, high-quality and effective responses.
•    Developing strong collaborative relationships with business and Risk and Compliance stakeholders to drive a proactive approach to regulatory relationship management.
•    Ensuring regulatory interactions are appropriately prepared, governed, recorded and reported in accordance with the Regulatory Risk Management Policy.
•    Keeping senior leadership, including Executive and Board governance forums, informed of significant regulatory issues and concerns.
•    Monitoring APRA and ASIC policy developments and overseeing the consistency and quality of ANZ’s responses.
•    Maintaining high standards of regulatory record retention, information security and reporting.
•    Leading the continuous improvement of ANZ’s regulatory relationship management policies, practices, processes and controls.
•    Leading, motivating and developing a team responsible for supporting APRA and ASIC regulatory interactions.
•    Managing highly sensitive and confidential matters with confidence, judgement and care.
•    Contributing to an enhanced risk culture and upholding ANZ’s values in all internal and external interactions.

What will you bring?


To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

•    Relevant tertiary qualifications and significant financial services or Risk Management experience.
•    Extensive experience engaging constructively with regulators on behalf of a complex organisation.
•    Deep understanding of APRA and ASIC supervisory approaches and regulatory frameworks.
•    Significant experience in financial services, Risk Management, Compliance or a related discipline.
•    Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including experience advising and influencing senior executives.
•    Strong judgement and the ability to formulate effective responses to complex and sensitive regulatory issues.
•    The ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively across business, Risk and Compliance functions.
•    Proven ability to review, challenge and synthesise complex information into clear regulatory submissions, advice and reporting.
•    The ability to manage competing priorities and sensitive situations using a professional and risk-based approach.
•    Demonstrated people leadership experience, including the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team in a high-intensity environment.
•    Exposure to Board interactions and a strong understanding of governance frameworks would be advantageous.
