Senior Manager, Strategy and Design

Req ID:  64758
Department:  Transformation Management Office
Division:  Australia Commercial
Location:  Melbourne

About the role

At ANZ our purpose is to shape a world where people and communities thrive. We’re making this happen by improving the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our customers so they can achieve incredible things– whether they’re buying a home, building a business or saving for things big or small.

This role can be based in Melbourne, VIC or Sydney, NSW. Let us know what works for you.
Role Type: Permanent, Full time

Within ANZ, our Australia Commercial business is embarking on a major multi-year transformation program supported by significant investment. Our goal is to be the leading bank for small-to-medium Australian businesses looking to start, run or grow. Under this program, we have formed a new Transformation Management Office (TMO) with remit to articulate our target state, align delivery teams to our target state, govern delivery and investment health, and review the ongoing appropriateness of our strategy in a changing environment.

As a Senior Manager, Strategy and Design your mission is to translate our strategy into a working set of target state documents that will guide delivery teams in their solutions and inform stakeholders in their decisions. You will also monitor our economic environment and market trends to review and propose adjustments to our strategy required to achieve our goals.

What will your day look like

As a Senior Manager, Strategy and Design you will work with designers and architects (business, process, technology and data) and subject matter experts to translate our strategy into a working set of target state documents (including service blueprints, target operating model and capability models). You will assess its alignment to our strategy, balanced with its market competitiveness and return on investments. To bring the target state documents to life, you will support the stakeholder engagement process to obtain required approvals and embed it into delivery.

As we operate in a changing environment, our strategy and target state will be subject to periodic reviews. You will support the ongoing review and assessment of our strategy in light of market conditions, customer and industry trends, and its appropriateness within the broader context of ANZ’s group strategic goals. These documents will commonly be requested and/or shared with our Executive Committee, ANZ Board, and across divisions.

The Strategy and Transformation Office also plays a critical role in supporting the Group’s strategic planning processes, including the build and assessment of Business Architecture and Capabilities. You will play a critical role in the continued development the divisions view of both Business Architecture and Capabilities and work with Group to align across the divisions.

Due to the nature of the work, your work day will look very different, but there will never be a dull moment!

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Understanding of the commercial banking market and small to medium business sector
  • Experience in strategy development and business architecture
  • Appreciation of Service Design, Process Engineering, Technology and Data Architecture disciplines
  • Ability to absorb and critically analyse large amounts of information
  • Ability to build and interrogate financial models for scenario forecasting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, specifically the ability to articulate complex issues or ideas in a concise logical manner
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to effectively collaborate with a range of internal teams
  • Ability to plan and prioritise what needs to be done (including resource planning)
  • Great teamwork with ability to lead through influence

You’re not expected to have 100% of these skills. At ANZ a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we’d love to hear from you.

So, why join us?
