Customer Proposition is also the business owner of Retail Customer Data and is accountable for ensuring customer data is effectively understood, stewarded, governed and used across the customer lifecycle.
As ANZ continues to evolve its customer experiences, digital capabilities and data-driven decision making, effective customer data stewardship is becoming increasingly important to delivering great customer outcomes and maintaining trust.
About the Role
This role sits within Customer Proposition and is responsible for supporting Customer Proposition's ownership, stewardship and assurance of Retail Customer Data.
As a Senior Lead, Customer Data Governance & Assurance, you will act as Customer Proposition's customer data subject matter expert, combining deep understanding of customer data, customer journeys, operational processes and end-to-end data flows with strong stewardship, governance and assurance capability.
You will maintain an enterprise view of how customer data is created, captured, transformed, shared and consumed across Retail. You will help stakeholders understand customer data impacts, identify risks and opportunities, assess the effectiveness of controls and governance practices, and provide practical guidance on the appropriate use and management of customer data.
The role acts as a key partner across Customer Proposition, Technology, Data, Operations, Risk, Privacy, Legal and Delivery teams, ensuring customer data is treated as a strategic asset and managed appropriately across both business operations and change initiatives.
This is a highly visible role requiring strong analytical thinking, curiosity, stakeholder influence and the ability to translate complex customer data concepts into practical business outcomes.

What will your day look like?
As a Senior Lead - Customer Data Governance & Assurance , you will:
• Act as Customer Proposition's recognised subject matter expert for Retail Customer Data, providing advice, challenge and guidance on customer data ownership, stewardship, governance and usage.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of customer data domains, customer profiles, critical data elements, source systems, operational processes and customer journeys.
• Build and maintain visibility of end-to-end customer data flows, lineage, transformations and downstream consumption across Retail.
• Support Customer Proposition's responsibilities as the business owner of Retail Customer Data through stewardship, governance, risk and assurance activities.
• Assess customer data impacts arising from business initiatives, strategic programs and technology change.
• Provide practical guidance to business and project teams on customer data use, management, controls and decision-making.
• Identify customer data risks, issues, dependencies and control gaps, and support sustainable remediation and improvement activities.
• Partner with Technology, Data, Risk, Privacy and Delivery teams to improve understanding of customer data usage, dependencies, ownership and control effectiveness.
• Support the development and operation of customer data governance frameworks, stewardship practices and assurance activities.
• Contribute to Customer Data Owner obligations, including oversight of customer data risks, controls, ownership arrangements and mitigation activities.
• Support major initiatives impacting customer data, including migration, integration and transformation programs.
• Improve organisational understanding of customer data ownership, usage, quality, lineage and control effectiveness.
• Build trusted relationships across business and delivery teams and act as a key advisor on customer data matters.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
• Strong experience working with customer data, customer information management, customer operations, data stewardship, data governance, risk or assurance disciplines.
• Demonstrated understanding of end-to-end customer data flows, customer data lifecycles, system interactions, data lineage and operational data processes.
• Experience working with customer data in complex business and technology environments.
• Strong understanding of customer data ownership, stewardship practices, governance frameworks and control environments.
• Experience assessing customer data impacts, risks and controls across business processes and change initiatives.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to understand complex customer data ecosystems and translate insights into practical actions.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including the ability to challenge constructively and build alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Ability to communicate complex customer data concepts in simple, business-friendly language.
• A proactive and delivery-focused mindset with a passion for improving customer outcomes and data practices.
• Experience working in customer profile management, customer onboarding, customer servicing, customer identity, CRM, consent management or related customer lifecycle functions.
• Experience acting as a Data Steward, Data Owner Delegate, Data Governance Lead or similar stewardship role.
• Experience with data lineage, metadata management, data quality management or customer data remediation initiatives.
• Experience supporting major customer migrations, integration programs or enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Experience within financial services or another highly regulated industry.
