About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer, Financial Crime to join our Regulatory Legal team.

This role provides the opportunity to work at the forefront of financial crime regulation, advising on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF), sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption matters. You will provide strategic, practical and commercially focused legal advice that supports sound decision-making, regulatory compliance and effective management of financial crime legal risk across ANZ.

Working closely with business, risk and legal stakeholders, you'll play a critical role in navigating complex regulatory environments, supporting regulatory engagement, and helping ANZ respond to evolving financial crime obligations.

What will your day look like?

In this role, you will:

• Provide strategic, proactive and commercially focused legal advice on financial crime matters (AML/CTF, sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption), while identifying and managing potential reputational risks
• Advise on complex and time-sensitive regulator engagements.
• Partner with stakeholders across the business, financial crime risk and other ANZ legal teams to support effective risk management and compliance outcomes.
• Manage legal matters efficiently, including the engagement and oversight of external legal counsel where appropriate.
• Contribute to the capability and effectiveness of the Financial Crime Legal team through collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
• Exercise sound legal judgement and escalate significant matters appropriately.

What will you bring?

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Strong experience advising on financial crime legal and regulatory obligations.
• Expertise in banking and financial services regulation and the legal risks associated with regulatory compliance.
• Excellent legal judgement and risk management capability.
• The ability to provide commercial, practical and strategic legal solutions to complex issues.
• Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across business, risk and legal stakeholders.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• A legal qualification and current practising certificate.
• Experience gained within a top-tier law firm, financial institution, regulator or comparable in-house legal environment.
