About the Role
As a Senior Lawyer in Markets, you’ll play a key role in the development of legal capability and driving efficiency and risk management across the Markets Legal team. Reporting to the Director Legal, Markets Australia, you will engage with a broad range of stakeholders at all levels of seniority and will have the opportunity to demonstrate your strong leadership, presentation and influencing skills.

What will your day look like?
- Proactive management of legal risk and business reputation through the provision of clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice on transactions, products/infrastructure and business initiatives across relevant Markets product areas, including foreign exchange, rates, credit, commodities, money markets, capital markets and related financial markets infrastructure arrangements.
- Monitor, assess and advise on legal and regulatory developments affecting the Markets business in Australia, including developments relevant to derivatives, securities, deposits, payments, market conduct, financial markets infrastructure, product governance and customer outcomes.
- Support continuous improvement in legal advisory, approval and documentation processes, with a focus on quality, consistency, efficiency and appropriate risk management.
- Establish and maintain strong and positive relationships with internal stakeholders (including Markets front office, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Onboarding, Credit, Finance, Treasury, Technology and other enablement functions) and external law firms to minimise disruptions and to help the business deliver on its key priorities.
- Act as a senior member of the Markets Legal team and model ANZ’s values through accountable, collaborative and customer-focused behaviour.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Extensive experience advising on financial markets transactions, derivatives, securities, structured products, capital markets, financial markets infrastructure or similar institutional banking products gained from a major law firm or comparable in-house legal team.
- Strong understanding of markets businesses, including transaction lifecycle, documentation, regulatory obligations, legal risk and conduct risks.
- Ability to provide confident, concise and commercially sound legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative working style, with a willingness to mentor others and contribute to team-wide capability and continuous improvement.
- Hold a relevant qualification in law from an Australian university or its equivalent in a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
- Be admitted as a lawyer, legal practitioner, barrister, solicitor or barrister and solicitor of the High Court of Australia or a Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory
- Be eligible to hold and maintain a practicing certificate in the jurisdiction in which you will practice
