About the Role
This senior advisory role is pivotal in shaping and embedding ANZ’s non-financial risk (NFR) culture and governance practices across Talent & Culture (T&C), including across our International Countries where T&C operates.
The Senior Functional Advisor partners with Line 1 business leaders to uplift risk maturity and risk culture, ensure compliance with the I.AM Amplified framework, and drive continuous improvement in risk identification, control effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
The role also manages one functional advisor and a team of four risk reporting, control testing and risk event management experts who provide coverage across T&C division.

What will your day look like?
Your key responsibilities will include -
Strategic Risk Advisory
- Provide expert guidance on operational risk, compliance, and control frameworks aligned with ANZ’s I.AM Amplified framework.
- Lead risk assessments for BAU and change initiatives, ensuring risks are identified, rated, and mitigated through effective controls or attestations.
Governance & Oversight
- Act as a catalyst for uplift in governance practices, including control design, testing, and assurance activities.
- Represent BG&C in risk forums, audits, and regulatory engagements, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Participate in Enterprise wide forums and initiatives representing T&C to drive uplift in NFR and Risk Culture.
Regulatory & Emerging Risk Readiness
- Monitor the external regulatory landscape and internal risk signals to identify emerging risks and shifts in regulator sentiment.
- Translate insights into actionable treatment plans and influence policy and control updates.
Capability Uplift & Culture
- Lead education and engagement initiatives to uplift risk capability and embed a proactive risk culture across T&C and partner functions.
- Lead a team of five individuals, driving their personal development and deliverables, in line with the broader BG&C, T&C and organizational strategy.
- Provide thought leadership to junior BG&C team members and contribute to the broader BG&C people strategy.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Strong experience in managing Non Financial Risk in a Financial Institution.
- Self driven leadership and team building skills.
- Knowledge of Technology and Data Risk themes is highly desirable.
- Courage and commitment to drive continuous improvement and challenge status quo.
- Proven track record of delivering excellence in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities.
- Excellent communication skills to engage and influence diverse range of stakeholders.
