About the Role

The Senior Audit Lead – Wholesale Credit supports delivery of independent third-line assurance over Wholesale Credit Risk through the Credit Risk Centre of Audit, acting as a primary delivery lead for wholesale credit risk audits across the portfolio. 

 

Reporting to the Audit Director – Credit Risk & Models, the role plans and executes complex audit engagements aligned to the approved Internal Audit plan, forming evidence-based conclusions on the effectiveness of governance, risk management practices and controls supporting wholesale credit decision making and ongoing portfolio management. 

 

The role works closely with audit teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality audit outcomes in accordance with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards, while contributing specialist Wholesale Credit risk insight and supporting a strong speak-up culture.

What will your day look like?

As Senior Audit Lead – Wholesale Credit, core accountabilities include: 

 

  • Lead complex and high-risk audit engagements across the Credit Risk Centre of Audit, delivering independent third-line assurance over Wholesale Credit risk aligned to the approved Internal Audit plan. 
  • Apply subject-matter Wholesale Credit risk judgement within the assigned portfolio, forming credible conclusions on the effectiveness of credit risk governance, risk management frameworks, oversight arrangements and control effectiveness supporting credit decision making and ongoing portfolio management. 
  • Manage audit delivery to agreed timelines and budgets, ensuring productive use of resources, disciplined execution, timely escalation of delivery risks, and strong issue follow-up and validation readiness. 
  • Contribute to annual audit planning activities, providing informed input on key risk themes, regulatory priorities, emerging issues and coverage considerations relevant to the Wholesale Credit portfolio. 
  • Apply sound risk judgement and strong methodology discipline, ensuring audit work demonstrates clear understanding of key risks and conformance with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards. 
  • Apply a data-first audit mindset, embedding data analytics and AI into audit planning and execution to strengthen insight, coverage and efficiency. 
  • Lead engagement with business stakeholders throughout audit delivery, maintaining effective working relationships and escalating matters requiring judgement or direction appropriately. 
  • Apply relevant risk management frameworks in audit delivery, including the Non-Financial Risk Framework and other applicable guidance, to strengthen risk analysis, testing and conclusions. 
  • Ensure audit observations and recommendations are clear, proportionate and value-adding, supported by evidence and clearly linked to identified weaknesses in governance, oversight, frameworks or controls. 
  • Lead, coach and develop audit team members and foster a strong speak-up culture, role modelling challenge, integrity and accountability, and providing real-time feedback during audits. 

 

 

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following: 

 

  • Internal audit expertise: Strong understanding of Internal Audit methodology, evidence standards, reporting and issue validation, applied to complex credit risk audits with disciplined professional judgement. 
  • Wholesale Credit risk expertise: Deep subject-matter expertise in Wholesale Credit Risk, including governance, risk management frameworks, first- and second-line oversight activities and control environments. 
  • Business acumen: Deep understanding of banking fundamentals and operating models, including how wholesale credit portfolios are originated, managed, monitored and governed across end-to-end customer value chains. 
  • Regulatory and risk environment awareness: Strong understanding of the regulatory and risk context applicable to wholesale credit risk within a large, regulated financial institution, and how regulatory expectations translate into governance, oversight and control requirements. 
  • Audit delivery leadership: Demonstrated track record leading complex and high-risk audits, managing delivery, quality and stakeholder engagement to produce credible, defensible outcomes. 
  • Stakeholder engagement: Ability to engage credibly with senior business and risk stakeholders, manage challenge constructively and maintain independence. 
  • Data-enabled assurance: Experience using data and analytics to inform audit scoping, testing and insight appropriate to the wholesale credit portfolio. 
  • Leadership and culture: Experience supporting development of audit team members and contributing to a strong speak-up culture, role modelling integrity, independence and sound professional judgement. 
  • Good to have: Experience in credit risk or model-driven environments within a large, regulated financial institution; exposure to audits or reviews involving models or quantitative techniques; or exposure to regulatory interactions, remediation activity or thematic risk work. 
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, risk, accounting, mathematics, statistics or a related discipline. Quantitative or risk-focused professional qualifications (e.g. FRM, CFA or similar) are advantageous.
