Internal Audit (IA) is an integral component of ANZ’s governance process comprising the independent third line function of ANZ’s three lines of defence operating model. Internal Audit seeks to support ANZ’s purpose of shaping ‘a world where people and communities thrive’ by ‘supporting the Bank to move at pace, safely’. This is achieved through independence and objectivity, providing enterprise connections, insights and solutions, and bringing a broad perspective.

 

As a senior audit manager, you will be responsible for embodying Internal Audit’s purpose to ‘partner with the business’ and provide independent assurance, challenge and insights while anticipating future changes to the risk and control environment across the Institutional Australia and PNG, Financial Institutions Group and Corporate Finance businesses.

What will your day look like?

Customer:

  • Developing positive and constructive relationships with the business, first and second line stakeholders to help drive continual uplift in their risk and control environments to support Institutional’s strategic objectives.
  • Forming a deep understanding of the Institutional Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG), Financial Institutions Group (FIG) and Corporate Finance businesses and their forward agendas. Ensure such knowledge is shared across the broader IA team especially for CF and FIG which operate across the ANZ network.
  • Ensuring senior stakeholders are kept informed of significant and emerging risks through meaningful and ongoing insights.

 

Process:

  • Maintaining clear and up to date analysis of the risk and control environment for the areas within the portfolio and use this to drive future planning and continuous assurance activities.
  • Implementing approaches to improve assurance delivery to ensure that it remains relevant, timely and effective.
  • Ensuring audit work papers are of a high standard.
  • Overseeing audit follow up and remediation activity.

 

People:

  • Motivating, guiding and directing staff on audits to ensure achievement of both audit objectives and individual developmental initiatives.
  • Acting as a performance coach to IA team members and ensure that team and individual performance is actively managed and enhanced, and that development plans are implemented to enhance skills, knowledge, and leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrating and providing thought leadership to the wider IA team – in particular broader IA capability build in relationship management and business awareness.
  • Ensuring adequate knowledge sharing and collaboration across IA.
  • Living the ANZ Purpose, Behaviours and iCARE values at all times, by demonstrating leadership within the team and across the business.

 

Financial:

  • Managing audit reviews with medium to high degrees of complexity in line with the annual audit plan, time, and cost budgets.
  • Effectively leveraging Internal Audit resources and external consultants (where required) to deliver on plan in a cost-effective manner.
  • Leveraging automation and data to develop deeper assurance insights across the risk and controls environment.

What will you bring?

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following: 

 

  • Tertiary qualified, ideally with Professional (CPA/CA) and / or Post Graduate qualifications with technically relevant skills (i.e., accounting, audit, credit, operational risk, or compliance).
  • Banking and Finance Industry knowledge: knowledge and understanding of Institutional businesses - coverage (sales), credit principles, systems, products, policies, and procedures.
  • Risk Management framework: knowledge of the ANZ I.AM framework and associated Level 1 and 2 Policies and Procedures.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in drafting and communicating key audit observations, thematic papers, and recommendations. Excellent listening and interpreting capabilities.
  • Resilience: Experience in supporting and overcoming resistance to change. Excellent negotiating, influencing and conflict management skills.
  • Stakeholder Management: Track record in building, developing, and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders. Good negotiating, influencing and conflict management skills including supporting change and overcoming resistance to change. Being empathetic and commercially minded.
  • Culture: Be curious and have a growth mindset. Constantly delivers on assigned goals and strives to better these goals despite obstacles, setbacks, or uncertainty.
  • Planning and Accountability: Positive, self-starter who takes accountability for assigned tasks and sees them through to completion. Ability to forward plan for work and can manage competing priorities.
