About the Role

 

The Senior Audit Lead – Institutional (ex Markets) roles support delivery of independent third-line assurance across the Institutional portfolio, excluding Markets, through audits assessing the effectiveness of governance, risk management and controls. 


Reporting to the Audit Director – Institutional (ex Markets), these roles lead audit engagements of varying complexity across end-to-end Institutional customer value chains and the relevant Critical Operation, forming evidence-based assessments of control effectiveness, service reliability and regulatory compliance. 


The roles work closely with audit teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality audit outcomes in accordance with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards, while contributing informed risk insights and supporting a strong speak-up culture.

What will your day look like?

 

 

Key Accountabilities – Senior Audit Lead (Institutional ex-Markets)

  • Lead audit engagements or support complex audits across Institutional customer value chains, delivering assurance aligned to the Internal Audit plan.
  • Manage audit delivery within agreed timelines and budgets, ensuring disciplined execution, timely risk escalation, and strong issue follow-up.
  • Contribute to audit planning by identifying key risks, emerging issues, and coverage priorities.
  • Support effective risk identification and audit scoping, focusing on material risks and customer outcomes while maintaining assurance quality.
  • Apply sound risk judgment and adhere to Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Utilize relevant risk frameworks, including the Non-Financial Risk Framework, to support audit analysis, testing, and conclusions.
  • Adopt a data-driven audit approach, leveraging analytics and AI to enhance planning, testing, insights, and efficiency.
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships and escalating key matters appropriately.
  • Deliver clear, risk-based audit findings and recommendations that drive value and support customer, conduct, and service outcomes.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members, fostering a strong speak-up culture and providing real-time feedback.

 

What will you bring?

 

 

To succeed in this role, you will ideally bring:

  • Audit expertise: Strong knowledge of audit methodology, evidence standards, reporting, and issue validation.
  • Business acumen (Institutional Banking): Solid understanding of Institutional products, services, customers, and operating models, including end-to-end value chains and supporting processes.
  • Risk capability: Proven ability to identify, assess, and challenge key non-financial risks (e.g., operational resilience, conduct, fraud, compliance, and transaction risks), and evaluate control effectiveness across customer value chains while escalating material risk themes.
  • Audit delivery track record: Demonstrated experience delivering medium to high complexity audits or workstreams with high-quality, defensible outcomes.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Ability to engage senior stakeholders, clearly communicate audit outcomes, and manage differing views constructively.
  • Data-driven assurance: Practical experience using data and analytics to enhance audit scoping, testing, and insights.
  • Leadership and culture: Experience supporting team development and promoting a strong speak-up culture, demonstrating integrity, independence, and sound judgment.


Good to have:
Prior experience in Institutional banking or operations, exposure to remediation or regulatory reviews, or experience auditing transformation and change initiatives.

Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualification and/or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CA, CIA or equivalent), with postgraduate studies in accounting, audit, risk, or compliance considered advantageous.
