About the Role
The Senior Audit Lead – Finance, Treasury & External Reporting supports delivery of Internal Audit’s specialist assurance across capital adequacy risk, liquidity and funding risk, climate risk, and statutory, tax and regulatory reporting risks, while contributing to Internal Audit’s functional assurance over the Enterprise Finance function and associated Critical Operation.
Reporting to the Audit Director – Finance, Treasury & External Reporting, the role plans and executes complex audit engagements within the approved audit plan, forming evidence-based conclusions on the effectiveness of governance, risk management and controls relevant to the portfolio’s coverage.
The role works closely with audit teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality audit outcomes in accordance with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards, while contributing specialist insight across the portfolio’s risk domains and supporting a strong speak-up culture.

What will your day look like?
As Senior Audit Lead – Finance, Treasury & External Reporting, core accountabilities include:
- Lead complex and high risk audit engagements delivering independent third line assurance over the portfolio coverage, including audits assessing capital adequacy risk, liquidity & funding risk, climate risk, and statutory, tax and regulatory reporting risks, and audits contributing to Enterprise Finance functional coverage, including the associated Critical Operation, aligned to the approved Internal Audit plan.
- Manage audit delivery to agreed timelines and budgets, ensuring productive use of resources, disciplined execution, timely escalation of delivery risks, and strong issue follow-up and validation readiness.
- Contribute to annual audit planning activities, providing informed input on key risk themes, regulatory priorities, emerging issues and coverage considerations relevant to Enterprise Finance and the portfolio’s risk SME areas.
- Apply subject‑matter judgement across audit delivery, forming credible conclusions on the effectiveness of governance, risk management practices and oversight for capital adequacy, liquidity and funding, climate, and statutory, tax and regulatory reporting risks, and for Enterprise Finance functional coverage.
- Apply sound risk judgement and strong methodology discipline, ensuring audit work demonstrates clear understanding of key risks and is delivered in conformance with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards.
- Apply a data first audit mindset, embedding data analytics and structured evidence into audit planning and execution to strengthen insight, coverage and efficiency, including where relevant to reporting integrity, risk monitoring and control effectiveness.
- Lead engagement with business stakeholders throughout audit delivery, maintaining effective working relationships and escalating matters requiring judgement or direction appropriately.
- Apply relevant risk management frameworks and guidance in audit delivery, including relevant financial risk and external reporting frameworks, to support robust risk analysis, testing and conclusions.
- Ensure audit observations and recommendations are clear, proportionate and value adding, supported by evidence and clearly linked to identified weaknesses in governance, oversight, frameworks or controls.
- Lead, coach and develop audit team members and foster a strong speak-up culture, role modelling challenge, integrity and accountability, and providing real time feedback during audits.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:
- Risk domain expertise (one or more areas): Deep expertise in treasury-related financial risks including capital adequacy, liquidity and funding; climate-related risks including governance, risk management and disclosure requirements; and/or statutory, tax and regulatory reporting risks including reporting obligations, regulatory expectations and assurance over reporting integrity.
- Business acumen: Strong understanding of Enterprise Finance operating models, key processes and governance arrangements, including financial and regulatory reporting and the associated Critical Operation.
- Regulatory awareness: Strong understanding of the regulatory context relevant to finance, treasury and reporting activities within a large, regulated financial institution.
- Audit and assurance expertise: Strong understanding of audit and assurance practices, including risk assessment, evidence standards, reporting and issue validation, applied to complex and judgement-led engagements.
- Audit delivery leadership: Demonstrated track record leading complex and high-risk audits, managing delivery, quality and stakeholder engagement to produce credible, defensible outcomes.
- Stakeholder engagement: Ability to engage credibly with senior business and risk stakeholders, manage challenge constructively and maintain independence.
- Data-enabled assurance: Experience using data and analytics to inform audit scoping, testing and insight, appropriate to the risks in scope.
- Leadership and culture: Experience supporting development of audit team members and contributing to a strong speak-up culture, role modelling integrity, independence and sound professional judgement.
- Good to have: Working knowledge of model risk concepts and the end-to-end model lifecycle; experience across multiple financial risk or reporting domains; or exposure to regulatory interactions, thematic reviews or remediation activity relating to finance, treasury or reporting obligations.
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics, statistics, risk management or a related discipline. Professional qualifications relevant to finance, risk, audit or reporting (e.g. CA, CPA, CIA, CFA, FRM or equivalent) are advantageous.
