Senior Associate Transformation Portfolio Oversight
Senior Associate Transformation Portfolio Oversight
About Us
At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our millions of customers.
About the Role
The Senior Associate, Transformation Portfolio Oversight supports the Senior Manager in delivering independent second-line risk oversight of ANZ’s prioritised portfolio of strategic transformation programs. The role exists to assist in identifying, analysing and monitoring non-financial risks across transformation initiatives, support early escalation of material risk issues, and contribute to clear, defensible risk insights aligned to risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
The role works at program and portfolio level to analyse risk trends, interdependencies and emerging themes, supporting judgement-led challenge and high-quality governance at key risk inflection points across the change lifecycle.
Banking is changing and we’re changing with it, giving our people great opportunities to try new things, learn and grow. Whatever your role at ANZ, you’ll be building your future, while helping to build ours.
Role Type: Permanent
Role Location: Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane
Work Hours: Full time
What will your day look like?
What you'll be doing:
Portfolio-level second line oversight & analysis:
• Support proportionate, risk-based oversight of ANZ’s prioritised strategic programs across initiation, design, build, implementation and transition to BAU.
• Analyse program artefacts, governance and delivery plans to identify material operational, compliance, conduct, technology, data and delivery risks, interdependencies and emerging themes.
Early engagement at key risk inflection points:
• Support early engagement on material decisions including prioritisation, scope changes, design trade-offs, delivery resets, risk acceptances and BAU handover, helping to surface and treat risks before they crystallise.
Non-financial risk outcomes & control sustainability:
• Assist in assessing whether transformation initiatives strengthen the control environment and avoid creation of new material control gaps.
• Support challenge on readiness-to-operate and sustainability of controls post-delivery.
Governance, escalation & reporting:
• Support effective portfolio governance through preparation of concise, decision-oriented risk reporting and thematic insights for senior risk forums.
• Assist with monitoring of issues, actions and time-bound risk acceptances and escalate concerns in line with defined thresholds.
Stakeholder engagement & influence:
• Build effective working relationships with Line 1 transformation leaders and Group Risk partners, balancing constructive partnering with independence and professional challenge.
Capability uplift & risk culture:
• Contribute to continuous improvement of transformation portfolio oversight practices, templates and reporting, and role model strong risk culture and ANZ values.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
• Demonstrated experience supporting second-line risk oversight, assurance, audit or transformation governance within a regulated financial services environment.
• Working knowledge of operational risk, compliance risk and control frameworks and governance across program lifecycles.
• Strong analytical capability and ability to draft clear, executive-ready risk insights.
• Portfolio risk analysis & judgement – analyse the portfolio to help identify systemic risks and interdependencies
• Risk and control evaluation – assesses control effectiveness and sustainability and forms independent, evidence-based conclusions
• Concise written and verbal communication – contributes to decision-oriented insights tailored to executive and Board audiences
• Stakeholder partnering - balances collaboration with independence and influences outcomes without direct authority
• Governance & Defensibility – operates with strong discipline around documentation, escalation and regulatory-ready evidence
• Learning agility – rapidly learns from experience, adapts thinking and behaviour in new or ambiguous situations, and applies insights to improve decisions and outcomes
